Pollock and Beier net four goals apiece to lead Panthers
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (March 21, 2017) – Adelphi University, ranked No. 1 in both the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and US Lacrosse Magazine Division II poll, erased an early two goal deficit before running away with a 17-3 victory over Stonehill College, ranked No. 20 in the IWLCA Division II poll, in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Motamed Field tonight.
Freshman Kole Pollock (Massapequa, New York/Massapequa) led three Adelphi players with five points as she netted four goals and added an assist. Junior Michelle Scannell (Smithtown, New York/Smithtown East) added three goals and two assists, with five draw controls, while freshman Allison Johnson (Middle Island, New York/Longwood) dished out five assists for the Panthers. Senior Kate Beier (West Islip, New York/West Islip) contributed four goals and three ground balls, while classmates Jacqueline Jahelka (Garden City, New York/Garden City) and Casey Zalewski (Wall, New Jersey/Wall) each chipped in with a pair of goals.
Junior Hailey Peterson (Lake Worth, Florida/Park Vista) finished with three saves in the Adelphi goal as the Panthers posted a 28-9 advantage for shots in the contest, converting 2-of-3 free-position attempts. Adelphi also edged Stonehill 11-10 in draw controls and forced 17 Skyhawks turnovers, including nine in the second half, as the Panthers outscored the visitors 10-0 over the final 30 minutes. Junior Bailey Herr (Oakhurst, New Jersey/Ocean Township) started and yielded the first 12 Adelphi goals in 36:23, before freshman Bailey Grant (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) made three saves over the last 23:37.

Freshman Jennifer Wheaton (Dartmouth, Massachusetts/Dartmouth) netted two goals for Stonehill and added two draw controls. Senior Elizabeth Vetter (Great River, New York/East Islip) scored the remaining Skyhawks goal with three ground balls and two draw controls.
Stonehill jumped out to a quick two goal lead in the opening 4:15 with Vetter scoring her 11th goal of the year just 1:31 into the game, before Wheaton added her first of the afternoon, assisted by junior Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic), three minutes later. Vetter's goal is the first Adelphi has yielded in three games spanning 136:52 dating back to its 12-5 win at then top-ranked Florida Southern College exactly one month ago on February 21.
Adelphi responded with a six goal run in the next 12 minutes to erase the early deficit and take control, capped by Scannell's second goal of the game with 13:49 to play in the half. She posted two goals and an assist in all during the Panthers run. Wheaton broke up the Panthers string with her second goal of the day with 1:26 left in the half, but the hosts took a four goal lead into halftime (7-3) as Beier netted her second marker of the half with just 43-seconds left.
Adelphi broke the game open in the second half by outscoring Stonehill 10-0, including five goals in the first 6:23. Pollock netted three goals for the Panthers in the second half, chipping in a goal and assist during the opening burst, as did Scannell and junior Beth Ann Pierce (Middleburg, Virginia/Saint John's Catholic Prep).
Stonehill (3-3, 2-1 NE10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits Southern Connecticut State University for an NE10 matchup at noon. The Skyhawks return home next Wednesday, March 29, to host the University of New Haven at 7 p.m. Adelphi (5-0, 3-0 NE10) hosts Bentley University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
