Corvino leads Skyhawks with first team honors for first time
NE-10 Women's Lacrosse Postseason Awards Release
EASTON, Mass. (May 4, 2016) – Three members of the Stonehill College women's lacrosse program have earned All-Northeast-10 Conference honors as selected by the league's 14 head coaches the Conference announced.
Junior Cara Corvino (Dorset, Vermont/Burr and Burton Academy) highlights Stonehill's three All-Conference selections by earning first team honors, while sophomore Kelly Healey (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) was selected to the second team and junior Elizabeth Vetter (Great River, New York/East Islip) has been voted to the third team, with all earning All-NE-10 recognition for the second straight year.
Corvino, a second team All-Northeast-10 selection as sophomore, earns first team honors as the leader of a Stonehill defense which ranks fifth in the NE-10 with a 9.53 team goals against average and third with 18.9 ground balls per game. Corvino has started all 17 games for the Skyhawks this season and leads the team and ranks eighth among NE-10 leaders with 23 caused turnovers to go with a team-high 41 ground balls (6th NE-10) and 30 draw controls. She forced a career-high five turnovers in an 8-7 win at Saint Michael's College on April 22, while collecting six ground balls and a season-high matching three draws against Southern New Hampshire University on April 19.
Corvino, also an All-North Region third team honoree last season, has started 38 of the 55 games she has played over her career at Stonehill – starting all 37 games the last two seasons. She has totaled 92 ground balls, 41 draw controls and 48 caused turnovers over her career. Corvino, who received the Matthew McDonough '99 Spirit Award at Monday night's Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony for her spirit, dedication and pride along with his honorable character and service toward the Stonehill community, has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll three semesters and is a member of the Stonehill Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Healey, the first freshman since 2009 to earn All-America honors when she was selected to the third team last season, earns second team All-Northeast-10 honors for the second straight year. Also a key member of the Stonehill defensive unit which ranks fifth in the NE-10 with a 9.53 goals against average and third with 18.9 ground balls per game, she has pushed forward through midfield to contribute a career-high ten goals, including a career-best three in a 14-7 win at Franklin Pierce University on March 19, in 16 starts this season as well. Healey has collected 28 ground balls, 25 draw controls and six caused turnovers for the Skyhawks. She grabbed five ground balls in the 8-7 win at Saint Michael's on April 22 and six draws in a 13-10 win over Assumption College on April 5.
Healey earned All-North Region second team honors as a freshman to go with her All-America and All-Northeast-10 plaudits, while also being selected to the NE-10's All-Rookie Team. She has also earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status two semesters at the College. Healey has recorded 13 goals and an assist for 14 points in 36 career games, starting 33, to go with 42 ground balls, 50 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers.
Vetter earns All-Northeast-10 honors for the second straight year with her third team selection after collecting second team accolades as a sophomore. She has started all 17 games in midfield for Stonehill this season and is third on the team with 34 points, while ranking second with 28 goals to go with six assists. Vetter leads the team with 51 draw controls (12th NE-10) to go with 39 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers. She potted a season-high five goals to lead the Skyhawks to a 13-10 win over Assumption, adding season-highs of seven draws, five ground balls and two caused turnovers against No. 2-ranked Le Moyne College on April 2.
Vetter, an All-North Region second team honoree last season and NE-10 All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman, has started 38 of her 54 career games played in three seasons at Stonehill. She has totaled 93 points with 82 goals and 11 assists, converting 10-of-36 career free-position shot attempts, with 152 draw controls, 82 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers. Vetter has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester at the College and was recently inducted into Kappa Mu Epsilon National Honor Society.
Stonehill (9-8, 7-6 NE-10), ranked 20th in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, is back in action this afternoon, when it visits third-seeded and 13th-ranked Bentley University for a Northeast-10 Tournament quarterfinal matchup at 4 p.m.
