Lane headlines list of All-Region selections with first team honors
EASTON, Mass. (June 15, 2015) – Five members of the Stonehill College women's lacrosse program have been named to the three Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II North Region teams.
Senior midfielder Lizzie Lane (Sandwich, Massachusetts/Bishop Stang) leads the list of All-North Region selections for Stonehill with a spot on the first team. Senior goaltender Ashley Armstrong (Northborough, Massachusetts/Algonquin Regional), sophomore attack Elizabeth Vetter (Great River, New York/East Islip) and freshman defender Kelly Healey (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) all collected second team All-Region honors, while sophomore defender Cara Corvino (Dorset, Vermont/Burr and Burton Academy) was named to the third team. All five also represented the program with All-Northeast-10 Conference honors this season.
Lane, also a first team All-Northeast-10 pick this spring, earns All-North Region honors for the first time. She started all 20 games for Stonehill during her senior year and led the team with 40 goals to go with eight assists for 48 points, while the two-way player also collected a team-high 49 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers, to go with 64 draw controls. She netted a team-high four game winning goals and converted 8-of-20 free-position shot attempts, while ranking second on the team in scoring. Lane finished the year ranked eighth among NE-10 leaders for ground balls, ninth in draw controls and caused turnovers and 11th in goals scored. She posted 24 goals and five assists for 29 points in Stonehill's 13 NE-10 games, adding 27 ground balls, 39 draws and a team-best 15 caused turnovers.
Lane capped her collegiate career with 98 points in 78 games played with 76 goals and 22 assists to go with 156 ground balls, 174 draw controls and 68 caused turnovers. She earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status all eight semesters at the College and Athletic Director's Honor Roll three semesters. Lane was named to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2012 and her 64 draw controls this season are the fourth-highest single-season total in program history, while her 57 draws in 2013 now rank sixth.

Armstrong, a second team All-Northeast-10 selection this spring, also earns All-Region honors for the first time. She played all 1,206 minutes in the Stonehill goal this season, having played all but 2:20 of the Skyhawks goaltending minutes over the last two years. She posted an 8.11 goals against average and .467 save percentage with 7.2 saves per game this season, adding 45 ground balls and five caused turnovers. Armstrong, who earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Championship team for the third straight year, led the Conference in minutes played, while also ranking second in save percentage, sixth in goals against average and seventh for saves. She posted a 7.77 GAA and .457 save percentage with 6.5 saves per game in the Skyhawks 13 NE-10 games this spring and earned NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week honors once.
Armstrong capped her Stonehill career as the program's all-time leader with 534 saves, while her 47 career wins are tied for the program's career record. She posted a 9.56 goals against average and .449 save percentage with 7.4 saves per game in 4,103:08 over 72 career games played (68 starts) and a career record of 47-22. Armstrong earned NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week honors four times over her career and was named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll three semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll once. Her goals against average this season is tied for tenth-lowest in program history, while she owns three of the top ten single season save totals in program history, including her career-high 157 stops as a junior ranking second all-time.
Vetter, selected to the All-Northeast-10 second team after earning All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2014, earns All-North Region honors for the first time. She finished the year with 39 goals and four assists for 43 points in 20 games played (14 starts). She also led the team with 81 draw controls to go with 29 ground balls and eight caused turnovers with three gamewinning goals. She finished second on the team in goals scored and fourth in scoring, ranking 13th among NE-10 leaders for goals and fifth for draws. Her draw control total this season is the third-highest single-season total in program history. Vetter led the Skyhawks with 30 goals in 13 NE-10 games, adding three assists for 33 points to go with a team-high 53 draws, 21 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Vetter has started 21 of her 37 games played over her two seasons at Stonehill and totaled 54 goals and four assists for 58 points with 43 ground balls, 101 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers.
Healey, also a second team All-Northeast-10 and All-Rookie Team pick this spring, rounds out Stonehill's second team All-Region selections. She stepped in as a leader for the Skyhawks defensive unit in her freshman season, totaling 14 ground balls and 25 draws with five caused turnovers, while chipping in with three goals and an assist for four points in 20 games played (17 starts). Healey notched a season-high five caused turnovers in back to back wins over American International College and then 6th-ranked University of New Haven on April 2 and 4. She has earned NE-10 Commissioner's and Athletic Director's Honor Roll status as well in her first collegiate year.
Corvino, who earned All-NE-10 second team honors this spring, collects All-Region honors for the first time with her spot on the third team. She started all 20 games as a key member of Stonehill's defensive unit in front of Armstrong. The Skyhawks finished the year ranked fourth in the NE-10 with an 8.11 team goals against average and 6.8 caused turnovers per game, holding the opposition to single-digit goals 14 of 20 games, including four games of five goals or less. Corvino ranks second on the team with 20 caused turnovers and third with 37 ground balls.
Corvino, who has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, has started 21 of her 38 career games played and posted 51 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers with 11 draw controls as a member of the Skyhawks defensive unit.
Stonehill (15-5, 10-3 NE-10), ranked seventh in the final IWLCA Division II poll, earned its eighth NCAA Tournament bid this season, falling to eventual national champions Adelphi University (10-6) in the national quarterfinal round. The Skyhawks also appeared in their 17th Northeast-10 Tournament, reaching the semifinal round for the 17th consecutive year. Head Coach Katie Conover collected her 100th win in eight seasons at the helm of her alma mater with a 16-9 win at Assumption College on March 28.
