McDonough and Shannahan earn first team All-NE-10 honors
DiRe and Rudden named to All-NE-10 second team
Vetter collects NE-10 All-Rookie status
EASTON, Mass. (April 30, 2014) – Five members of the Stonehill College women's lacrosse program have earned postseason recognition from the Northeast-10 Conference as selected by the league's 13 head coaches in advance of the Conference's postseason tournament.
Senior captain Katherine McDonough (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and classmate Kelsey Shannahan (Mendham, N.J./Morris Catholic) lead Stonehill's list of four All-Northeast-10 Conference performers with first team honors for the first time in their careers. Junior Brooke Rudden (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and sophomore Remi DiRe (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) round out the Skyhawks All-Conference selections with second team honors, while freshman Elizabeth Vetter (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) has been named to the NE-10's All-Rookie Team.
McDonough, a second team defender last year, earns All-Northeast-10 honors for the second straight season with her first selection to the first team. McDonough leads a Stonehill defensive unit which ranks fifth in the NE-10 for goals against average (9.18), fourth in ground balls (18.9/gm) and caused turnovers (7.8). She has contributed a team-high 35 ground balls (12th NE-10) and eight caused turnovers in 15 games played this season.
McDonough has started 47 of her 59 games played over her career and has recorded 68 ground balls, 14 draw controls and 24 caused turnovers. She collected a career-high 11 ground balls in Stonehill's 11-4 win over Southern Connecticut State University on April 9 and has registered a career-best two caused turnovers on six occasions, including the Skyhawks 13-3 win over Merrimack College on April 16.
Shannahan earns All-Northeast-10 honors for the second time in her career with her first selection to the first team after collecting second team honors as a freshman in 2011. She has started all 17 games for Stonehill this season and leads the team with 57 points (9th NE-10) and 47 goals (7th) to go with ten assists, 32 ground balls, 31 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers. Shannahan has collected at least a point in 42 straight games dating back to her freshman season and scored a career-high eight goals in Stonehill's 17-5 win over Southern New Hampshire University on April 2. She added a season-high seven points with five goals and two assists in a key North Region win at Dowling College on April 19.
Shannahan, a womenslacrosse.com Division II and NE-10 All-Rookie team selection as a freshman, has started 55 of the 56 games she has played over her career at Stonehill and posted 115 goals and 38 assists for 153 points, while contributing 110 ground balls, 73 draw controls and 60 caused turnovers. Her 41 caused turnovers as a freshman is the third-highest single season total in program history, while her 59 ground balls that season rank eighth all-time. Shannahan has earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status four semesters at the College and Athletic Director's Honor Roll once.

Rudden earns All-Northeast-10 honors for the first time with her second team selection. She leads Stonehill with 33 assists (4th) this season to go with 18 goals for 51 points, chipping in 17 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Her assist total ranks 21st nationally and seventh on the program's single-season list. Rudden notched a career-best seven points in back-to-back games at Dowling and home against Saint Anselm College on April 19 and 22, dishing out a career-high six helpers in the win at Dowling.
Rudden, who has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll four semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll first the first time last fall, has started 27 of the 49 games she has played over her three year career. She has totaled 34 goals and 45 assists for 79 points, having notched career-high season totals in all three categories this spring, also contributing 28 ground balls, six draws and nine caused turnovers.
DiRe, an NE-10 All-Rookie team selection as a freshman, earns her first All-Northeast-10 award with her second team honor. She is also a key member of a Stonehill defense that ranks fifth in the NE-10 for goals against average (9.18), fourth in ground balls (18.9/gm) and caused turnovers (7.8). DiRe leads the Skyhawks with 15 caused turnovers (20th NE-10) to go with 25 ground balls and seven draw controls in 17 starts this season.
DiRe has started 35 of her 36 games played over her two year career at Stonehill and has posted 52 ground balls, ten draws and 26 caused turnovers. She caused a career-high four turnovers in the Skyhawks key win at Dowling.
Vetter has started seven of her 15 games played over her freshman season at Stonehill and recorded 14 goals, 13 ground balls, 19 draw controls and seven caused turnovers. She scored a season-high four goals in the Skyhawks 17-10 win over Tiffin University on March 12 and then added three markers each in victories over Assumption College on March 19 and Merrimack on April 16.
Stonehill (11-6, 9-3 NE-10), ranked 13th in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll and 14th in the Lacrosse Magazine poll, is back in action tonight when it makes its Northeast-10 Conference record 16th appearance in the NE-10 Tournament and hosts fifth-seeded and No. 9/10-ranked Le Moyne College (12-4, 9-3 NE-10) for a first round matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m.
