Armstrong Earns Third NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week Award

Northborough, Mass., junior helps guide Skyhawks to pair of wins

EASTON, Mass. (April 21, 2014) – Stonehill College junior goalkeeper Ashley Armstrong (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for women's lacrosse for the third time this season by the league office this afternoon.

Armstrong helped Stonehill to a pair of wins last week as she played all 120 minutes in the Skyhawks goal and posted a 9.50 goals against average with five saves per game and chipping in with seven ground balls. She opened the week by making two saves and collecting four ground balls while conceding just three goals in Wednesday's 13-3 NE-10 win over Merrimack College. Armstrong followed that up with eight stops and three ground balls in Saturday's 18-16 key non-conference triumph at Dowling College, receiving votes nationally.

Armstrong has played all but two minutes and 20-seconds in the Stonehill goal this season and has posted a 9.10 goals against average (5th NE-10) and .465 save percentage (6th) while averaging 7.9 saves per game (6th) in 903:40 (1st) over 15 starts. She also ranks 25th nationally for total saves and 22nd for goals against average. Armstrong has recorded five double-figure save performances this season, including a season-best 14 against No. 2 Adelphi University on March 29, also chipping in with 21 ground balls and four caused turnovers for the season.

Armstrong has started 44 of the 48 games she has played over her three seasons at Stonehill. She has posted a 10.12 goals against average and .441 save percentage with 353 saves and a 30-15 record. She currently ranks fifth all-time in program history for career saves and wins, while her 119 saves this season ranks eighth on the program's single season list. Armstrong's 131 saves in 2013 is the sixth-highest single-season total in program history and her 103 stops in 2012 ranks tenth. Armstrong has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll three semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll once, earning a spot on the NE-10 All-Championship team during the 2012 tournament. She recorded a career-high 16 saves at Rollins College in 2012.

Stonehill (10-5, 8-2 NE-10), ranked 12th in both the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Lacrosse Magazine Division II polls, is back in action Tuesday night when it hosts Saint Anselm College, ranked 14th in the IWLCA Division II poll, for a key Northeast-10 matchup that will likely determine the No. 3 seed for the upcoming NE-10 Tournament, for the Skyhawks Purple & White Game on Senior Night at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. Stonehill closes out the regular season Thursday at Saint Michael's College at 3 p.m.
