NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship Announcement

EASTON, Mass. (May 5, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's lacrosse team, ranked ninth in the most recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, has earned its seventh bid to the NCAA Division II Championships as announced by the NCAA women's lacrosse selection committee tonight.

Stonehill (13-6, 10-2 NE-10) is seeded fourth in the North Region and will face top-seeded and defending National Champions LIU Post (17-0, 7-0 ECC) in a national quarterfinal round matchup, on Saturday, May 11, in Brookville, N.Y., at 11 a.m. Stonehill is making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, but first since 2010. The Skyhawks are two-time national champions, winning the title in 2003 and 2005. Head Coach Katie (Lambert) Conover, '03, who was a senior on Stonehill's first national championship squad, earns her second NCAA Tournament bid as a head coach at her alma mater. Stonehill has also earned NCAA Tournament bids in 2001, '02, '03, '05, '07 and '10.

The winner of next weekend's matchup will advance to the NCAA Division II Final Four at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md., May 18-19. Second-seeded and No. 4-ranked Le Moyne College (16-2, 11-1 NE-10) will host third-seeded and 5th-ranked Adelphi University (17-2, 11-1 NE-10) in the other quarterfinal in the North Region. That will mark a rematch of today's NE-10 Championship match won by Le Moyne, 8-6, in Syracuse, N.Y.

Stonehill and LIU Post played during the regular season with the Pioneers holding off a late Stonehill rally for a 15-12 triumph in Easton, Mass., on April 13. Junior Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) played a role in 13 of LIU Post's 15 goals as she registered five goals and eight assists for 13 points in the victory. Senior Heather Sullivan (Andover, Mass./Andover) led three Stonehill seniors with five points on the afternoon by netting a game-high matching five goals.
