Holbrook, N.Y., native receives award for second straight year with first team at large selection 

EASTON, Mass. (May 18, 2012) – Stonehill College senior All-American Samantha Lynott (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) has earned Capital One Academic All-District I at large honors as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members in Division II from the East Region.

The CoSIDA women's at large Academic All-America program includes student-athletes competing in bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo. With her selection to the NCAA Division II at large first team, Lynott is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, voted on by members of the CoSIDA Academic All-America committee members, to be announced later this month.

Lynott, who earns Academic All-District I honors for the second-straight year after collecting third team honors in 2011, boasts a 3.46 cumulative grade point average as a criminology major at Stonehill, with a minor in psychology. She recently received the College's Fr. William Gartland, CSC, Female Senior Student-Athlete of the Year award at the annual Senior Awards Banquet. Lynott collected Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honors as a junior and has received NE-10 Commissioner's and Athletic Director's honor roll status multiple semesters.

Lynott earned All-America honors as a sophomore and junior, receiving second team honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) both years. She has earned IWLCA All-North Region first team honors two-straight years and is a three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference second team selection. Lynott was named to the NE-10 Tournament All-Championship team this spring as she totaled six goals and two assists for eight points over the two postseason games, adding six draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers and also collected NE-10 Player of the Week honors once (April 23).

Lynott started 14 of the 15 games she played this season and finished third on the team with 62 points (16th NE-10) on 44 goals (15th) and 18 assists (17th), while also contributing 48 draw controls (11th), 31 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers (16th). In NE-10 play, she posted 23 goals and nine assists for 32 points over eight games, adding 19 draw controls, 18 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers (14th). Lynott was second on the team with 42 points in 12 games played against ranked opponents, totaling 30 goals and 12 assists with 45 draw controls, 21 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.

Lynott became the 11th player in program history to reach 200 career points during her eight point outing against Southern New Hampshire University on April 18. She finished her career at the College with 163 goals and 68 assists for 231 points in 67 games. She ranks sixth in program history for career goals, seventh for points and eighth for assists and also totaled 136 draw controls, 118 ground balls and 72 caused turnovers. 

Stonehill (14-5, 10-2 NE-10) is ranked sixth in the most recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll. The Skyhawks capped their season with an NE-10 record 14th-straight trip to the semifinal round of the NE-10 Tournament. Stonehill played 13 games against nationally-ranked teams this season, posting an 8-5 record.
