Lynott Named NE-10 Player of the Week

Holbrook, N.Y., native earns award for first time in career 

EASTON, Mass. (April 24, 2012) – Stonehill College senior All-American Samantha Lynott (Holbrook, N.Y./East Sachem) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week by the league office. It marks the first women's lacrosse Player of the Week award for the Skyhawks since classmate Sarah Galligan (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) collected back to back awards on April 5 and 12, 2010.

Lynott, who earns Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career, led Stonehill to a 2-1 week as she totaled 12 goals and six assists for 18 points, including the 200th of her career. She also contributed nine ground balls, eight draw controls and six caused turnovers for the week. Lynott led the Skyhawks to a 26-10 win over Southern New Hampshire with a season-high five goals and three assists for a season-best eight points, collecting her 200th point with her third goal of the contest to put the hosts up a goal with 13:14 to play in the first half. She followed that up with four goals and an assist in Saturday's tough 15-13 setback at 5th-ranked LIU-C.W. Post and then contributed three goals and two assists in Sunday's 19-9 triumph over 15th-ranked Queens (N.Y.) College.

Lynott has started 11 games for Stonehill in her senior season and is fourth on the team with 46 points (22nd NE-10), having registered 32 goals and 14 assists (17th). She is also second on the team with 37 draw controls (17th), while adding 21 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. Lynott has totaled 17 goals and seven assists for 24 points in six NE-10 matches. In nine matches against ranked opponents, she has contributed 23 goals and nine assists for 32 points.

Lynott is a two-time All-America selection by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) also earning All-America honors from womenlacrosse.com her junior season. She has been recognized for her efforts in the classroom and the field of play with Capital One Academic All-District I third team at large honors, having achieved a 3.44 cumulative grade point average as a criminology major at the College. The two-time IWLCA All-Region and All-Northeast-10 honoree has appeared in 63 games over her career and is ranked seventh in program history with her 215 points, while ranking tenth all-time with 151 goals and 64 assists and is one of just 11 200 point scorers in program history.

Stonehill (12-3, 9-1 NE-10) is back in action tonight when it hosts Assumption College for a Northeast-10 matchup on Senior Night at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks close out the regular season at No. 4-ranked Le Moyne College on Saturday at noon with a chance to earn a share of the NE-10 regular season championship with wins over its final two games. The NE-10 Tournament opened next Wednesday, May 2, with first round contests.
