Green leads Skyhawks to seventh-straight win with seven points

RINDGE, N.H. (April 4, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, scored the first six goals of the contest and never looked back in claiming a 19-5 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Sodexo Field this evening.

Junior Kayla Green (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) led three Stonehill players with five points or more as she totaled four goals and three assists for seven points. Classmate Heather Sullivan (Andover, Mass./Andover) netted a team-high five goals to go with three ground balls and three draw controls, while senior All-American Samantha Lynott (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) posted four goals and two assists for six points. Junior All-American Kelsey Reilly (Hingham, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) contributed two goals and three assists for five points with seven draw controls, five ground balls and four caused turnovers, while senior All-American Sarah Galligan (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) dished two assists to go with three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Junior All-American Rebecca Moore (Marlborough, Mass./St. Mark's School) and freshman Ashley Armstrong (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) split the goaltending duties for Stonehill. Moore started and made two saves, while conceding just one goal, in the first half, while Armstrong stopped seven shots in the final 30-minutes. The Skyhawks finished with a 33-17 advantage for shots in the contest, including 30-14 on goal. Senior Jillian Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional) registered eight saves in the first half for Franklin Pierce, before sophomore Jacqueline Jolles (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) made three stops in the second.

Junior Courtney Weber (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) and freshman Madeline Shopshire (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable) each finished with two goals for Franklin Pierce. Weber added two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover, while Shopshire chipped in with three draw controls.

Stonehill took immediate control by scoring the first six goals of the contest on its way to an 11-1 halftime lead. Lynott opened the scoring, assisted by Galligan, 1:54 into the match and played a role in four of the Skyhawks first six goals with two goals and two assists in the opening 13:20. Green and Sullivan each added a pair of goals during that stretch.

Shopshire put Franklin Pierce on the scoreboard with 16:27 left in the opening half, but Stonehill scored the final five goals of the frame to take a ten point lead (11-1) into the intermission. Reilly had two goals and two assists during that Skyhawks run, while Green posted a goal and two assists and Lynott chipped in with her third marker of the half.

Franklin Pierce scored the first two goals of the second half and three of the first five in the frame overall. Weber and senior Mary Kate Stille (North Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) scored the first two Raven goals before Sullivan answered a pair of markers for Stonehill, assisted by Green and Reilly. Shopshire added her second with 22:21 left in the contest before Stonehill reeled off four straight goals to open a 17-4 lead after Sullivan's fifth of the game with 9:18 remaining.

Stonehill (9-1, 7-0 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday for a key showdown with defending national champion and No. 2-ranked Adelphi University at W.B. Mason Stadium at 11:30 a.m. Franklin Pierce (5-4, 3-2 NE-10) visits Southern New Hampshire University next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
