Junior All-American recognized for outstanding athletic and academic achievement

EASTON, Mass. (May 24, 2011) – Stonehill College junior attacker Sam Lynott (Holbrook, N.Y./East Sachem) has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District I at-large third team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in New England and New York.

The CoSIDA women's at-large Academic All-America program includes student-athletes competing in bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo.

Lynott, a first-time Academic All-District honoree, has earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.46 as a criminology major at Stonehill. She was named an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II All-American following her breakout sophomore season in 2010, and is a two-time IWLCA All-North Region and Northeast-10 All-Conference selection as one of Division II's top attackers. She has also been selected to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester, and is a three-year member of the Stonehill Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

The Skyhawks' leading scorer this season, Lynott netted a career-high 59 goals and 23 assists for 82 points, ranking fifth in the NE-10 and 12th in Division II in goals scored. She surpassed the career 100-point mark in Stonehill's third game of the season, scoring a game-high four goals in an 11-10 win at Merrimack College. Lynott also caused a career-high 29 turnovers and collected 38 ground balls, and served as the Skyhawks' primary target off the draw with a team-leading 50 draw controls.

Lynott tallied five or more points seven times during the season, including a pair of eight-point games in the season's first two weeks as the Skyhawks streaked out to a 10-0 start, their best since 2007. She netted a season-high six goals in a 20-1 rout of American International College on April 14, and two days later was the offensive catalyst in Stonehill's biggest win of the season, an 11-9 victory over then-sixth-ranked C.W. Post. Lynott led all players with four goals and an assist on the day, scoring three times in the second half as the Skyhawks pulled away from a 5-5 tie at halftime to topple the Pioneers for the first time since 2005.

In 52 career games, Lynott is the Skyhawks' active scoring leader with 119 goals and 50 assists for 169 total points, and ranks ninth on the Stonehill career scoring list through three seasons.

Stonehill (15-4, 10-2 NE-10), ranked ninth in the final IWLCA Division II national poll, posted their highest win total in four seasons and earned the third seed in the NE-10 Women's Lacrosse Championship, where the Skyhawks fell in the semifinal round to eventual national semifinalist Le Moyne College.
