No. 10 Skyhawks Soar Past Falcons 23-8

Easton, Mass. - Seniors Mary Maloney (Great River, N.Y.) and Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J.) combined for 13 goals as the tenth ranked Skyhawks blew open a close game midway through the first half, beating the Bentley Falcons 23-8 in a match up of NE-10 rivals at W. B. Mason Stadium on Wednesday evening. 

Maloney scored a career high seven goals and added two assists for a career high nine points while Kelly was all over the field with six goals, four assists, five ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers. The win lifts the Stonehill to 10-4 overall and 9-1 in the NE-10 while Bentley falls to 8-8 and 6-3 in conference play. 

It was the Skyhawks who opened up the scoring, as Maloney and junior Liza Gross (Loudonville, N.Y.) scored in the first 2:02 for the early 2-0 lead. However, the Falcons scored four of the next six goals to tie the game at four with just under 20 minutes remaining. 

A Kelly goal at the 17:29 mark broke the 4-4 draw and Stonehill scored the final ten goals of the half to put the game out of reach.  Maloney scored four times during the run while Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass.) and Gross each put in two. Freshman Carly Keeley (Agawam, Mass.) and senior Michelle Salmon (East Islip, N.Y) also scored to give the Skyhawks a 15-4 lead. 

In the second, Bentley scored the first two goals of the half but Stonehill responded once again, scoring five times over the next 11 minutes, highlighted by a trio of Kelly scores. 

The Falcons added two goals in the final nine minutes, while the Skyhawks put three more past goaltender Christina Guglielmo for the 23-8 final. 

Gross added three goals and an assist with two draw controls and two caused turnovers for Stonehill, while Ladino had three goals and five draw controls. 

Goalie Justine Ferland (Portsmouth, N.Y.) allowed seven goals and made four saves in just over 57 minutes of action and defender Jackie Craig (Rocky Point, N.Y.) had four ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. 

The No. 10 Skyhawks return to action on Saturday when they host the second ranked Pioneers of C.W. Post at 1:00 p.m. in their regular season finale.
