Sullivan Named NE-10 Freshman of the Week

Andover, Mass., native honored for first time after helping 6th-ranked Skyhawks to pair of wins

EASTON, Mass. (March 29, 2010) – Stonehill College’s Heather Sullivan (Andover, Mass./Andover) has been named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week for women’s lacrosse by the Conference office this afternoon.

Sullivan earns the weekly honor for the first time after netting six goals in a 2-0 week for Stonehill. She also contributed a ground ball and draw control. Sullivan netted a hat trick in each win for the Skyhawks, scoring twice in the final 8:33 of regulation to key Thursday’s 13-11 comeback win over Merrimack College. Her free-position goal gave the Skyhawks the lead for good, before adding a late insurance goal, as the Skyhawks scored six of the game’s final eight goals to rally for the win. Sullivan also netted three goals in Saturday’s 17-6 triumph at 9th-ranked University of New Haven.

Sullivan has started all four games for Stonehill in her first collegiate season. She ranks third on the team with her ten goals and ten points so far this season, converting 5-of-7 free-position chances, while adding five ground balls, three draw controls and one caused turnover.

Stonehill (3-1, 2-1 NE-10), ranked sixth in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches  Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, is back in action on Wednesday, when it hosts Southern New Hampshire University for a key NE-10 matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 4 p.m.
