#6 Stonehill Cruises Past Bentley, 19-3
Anderson leads Skyhawks to fifth-straight win with seven points
WALTHAM, Mass. (April 6, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the most recent Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, coasted to its fifth-straight win with a 19-3 decision over rival Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference women’s lacrosse action tonight.
Junior Hannah Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) led Stonehill with seven points on five goals and two assists. Sophomore Sarah Galligan (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) posted four goals and an assist for five points, chipping in five ground balls, while classmate Sam Lynott (Holbrook, N.Y./East Sachem) contributed three goals and an assist for four points, also collecting five ground balls. Freshman Heather Sullivan (Andover, Mass./Andover) chipped in with three goals, while freshman Kayla Green (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) posted two goals and an assist off the bench.
Sophomores Maureen Fields (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) and Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro), along with freshman Alex Carney (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) all netted goals for Bentley.

Freshman Rebecca Moore (Marlborough, Mass./St. Mark’s School) finished with seven saves in 54-minutes in goal for Stonehill, while freshman Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) stopped 13 shots in the net for Bentley. The Skyhawks finished with a 33-19 advantage in shots for the match, including a 32-14 margin in shots on goal.
Bentley opened the scoring when Wiggins scored off a feed from junior Leigh Tedeschi (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) 5:55 into the first half. Stonehill netted the next eight goals on its way to scoring ten of the last 11 goals of the half to break the game wide open. Lynott knotted the score with an unassisted goal with 21:53 left in the half. She had three goals and an assist in the Skyhawks’ 8-0 run, while Sullivan netted three goals. The Skyhawks rounded out the half with goals from Anderson and Sullivan, assisted by Anderson, in the last 13-seconds of the frame.
Bentley scored the first goal of the second half as well, with Carney’s goal 59-second into the final frame, but Stonehill held the Falcons there and scored the final nine goals of the contest. Anderson had four goals in the second half, while Galligan potted three.
Stonehill (6-1, 4-1 NE-10) is back in action on Thursday when it hosts Saint Anselm College at W.B. Mason Stadium for a Northeast-10 matchup at 7 p.m. Bentley (5-4, 2-2 NE-10) visits Merrimack College on Thursday at 7 p.m.
