Craig Named IWLCA Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Rocky Point, N.Y., native first Stonehill student-athlete to earn award

EASTON, Mass. (June 14, 2010) – Recent Stonehill College graduate Jaclyn Craig (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) has been named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year, receiving her award at Saturday's IWLCA All-American Banquet, held at the Crown Valley Plaza in King of Prussia, Pa.

Craig is the first Stonehill student-athlete to earn the award in the program's 12-year history. The four-time first team IWLCA All-America selection recently graduated with a 3.66 cumulative grade point average while majoring in accounting at the College. She earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team honors and received the

Edward E. Martin Scholar-Athlete Award at the College and is a St. Thomas Aquinas medal recipient for having the highest cumulative GPA on the lacrosse team.

Craig, the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, is a four-time IWLCA All-North Region selection and four-time All-NE-10 honoree, earning first team honors her final three seasons. She started 14 of the 15 games she played for Stonehill this spring and posted 26 ground balls, 31 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers. She was the leader of a defensive unit which ranks eighth nationally in Division II with an 8.97 team goals against average and fourth with 12.29 caused turnovers per game. The team allowed just 3.88 goals per game in the second half this year.

Craig, one of the top defenders in program history, appeared in 65 career games at Stonehill and totaled 116 ground balls, 118 draw controls and 69 caused turnovers. She has also chipped in on offense with six goals and three assists for nine points over her career. Craig was also an NE-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and participated in the IWLCA's annual North-South Senior All-Star Game on Saturday prior to the All-American Banquet.

Stonehill (13-4, 10-1 NE-10), ranked sixth in the final IWLCA Division II poll, earned its sixth NCAA Tournament bid in program history and first since 2007 this spring. The third-seeded Skyhawks fell to eventual National Champions Adelphi University in the opening round.
