Skyhawks Score 14 Straight in 19-3 Victory
Easton, Mass. - For the second consecutive contest, the Stonehill Skyhawks (3-0, 2-0 Northeast-10) collected 19 goals to defeat a Northeast-10 Conference opponent. This time it was the Saint Anselm Hawks (2-4, 1-2 Northeast-10) who were dealt a humbling 19-3 defeat at W.B. Mason Stadium, Saturday afternoon. Classmates Mary Maloney (Great River, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) combined for 10 of Stonehill's 19 markers in the dominant win.
Kelly, Michelle Salmon (East Islip, N.Y./East
Islip) and two goals from Christa LaRocco (West
Islip, N.Y./West Islip) spot the host team an early 4-0 advantage.
Minutes later, back-to-back goals from Saint Anselm's Tiea
Kurlowecz and Arden Lyons tightened the game to a 5-3 affair.
The Skyhawks went on to score 14 unanswered goals from there.
The Purple and White closed the half on an impressive run - nine
goals in the final 10 minutes. Five second-half scores, three
from Kelly, resulted in a 19-3 victory, the women's third win of
the year.
Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip)
tallied three goals and an assist for four total points. She
moves into third all time with 200 career goals. The senior
captain is 27 markers away from the College's top spot, set by Erin
Acone in 2006. In only three contests this season Darrell has
12 goals.
LaRocco, a senior, also finished with four total points after
claiming three goals and an assist, as well. Kelly, a junior,
lead the way once again for Stonehill, registering six goals and an
assist for seven points.
The Skyhawks will return to action Thursday when they play host to New Haven. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at W.B. Mason Stadium.
