Easton, Mass. - The Stonehill College Women's Lacrosse team (5-1, 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference) returned to form this weekend with two huge victories over Franklin Pierce and the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans (1-4, 0-2 East Coast Conference).  The Skyhawks closed out their six-game home stand with an 18-5 win over the Spartans, Sunday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.  So far this season, the Purple and White have outscored their opponents 104-32.

An early goal from St. Thomas Aquinas' Maryanne Kugler was not enough to shake the Skyhawks, who net three unanswered goals from Mary Maloney (Great River, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Liza Gross (Loundonville, N.Y./Shaker) and Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) to take a 3-1 lead.

Spartan Jennifer Bruen provided another marker for the visiting team before Stonehill closed the half on a 5-0 run.  Junior Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) added her 20th and 21st markers during the run, giving the home team an 8-2 lead at the half.

Teammates Bruen and Aime Colon each scored in the second half but it was not enough as the Skyhawks rolled off eight straight markers to end the game.

Darrell, a senior captain, led the Skyhawks with four goals scored.  Her team-leading 22nd tally came with nine minutes remaining.  Darrell's 210 career goals stand third all-time behind head coach Katie Lambert (220) and Erin Acone (227).

Sophomores Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) and Gross, a midfielder, both finished strong for the Skyhawks, as well.  Ladino claimed a season-high three scores, while Gross added a goal and three assists in the win.

Freshman Hannah Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) contributed three second-half scores to secure the women's fifth win of the season.

The Skyhawks travel to Bentley on Wednesday to take on their conference rival in a Northeast-10 showdown.  The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Waltham, Mass.
