EASTON, Mass.-- Top-seeded and fifth-ranked Stonehill will meet second-seeded Merrimack for the second straight season in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship match, as each squad advanced to the 2006 title contest with respective semi-final round victories Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium. Stonehill, the six-time defending conference tournament champion, advanced with a 19-3 victory over fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire in the opening match of the day, while Merrimack overcame a two-goal halftime deficit to notch a 14-10 triumph over third-seeded Bryant in Saturday's second semi-final.

Senior All-America Erin Acone (Bow, N.H.) netted six goals and an assist for seven points to lead the way for Stonehill (15-3), which scored 13 of the final 14 goals of the match and held the visiting Penmen (8-5) scoreless in the second half of action. Sophomore All-America Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y.) chipped in with four goals and two assists for the Skyhawks, which also received a hat trick of the stick of junior Tracey Hoffman (Nashua, N.H.) as well as a pair of markers and two assists from freshman Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J.).

Senior All-America Jenny McGrath (Milton, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and an assist for three points on the day and set the Stonehill single-season mark for points with her 105th of the spring, breaking the previous high water mark of 104 points set by former Skyhawk standout and current Merrimack coach Katie Lambert in 2002. Freshman Mary Maloney (Great River, N.Y.) chipped in with a pair of goals on the day for the hosts, who also received a pair of assists from sophomore Christa LaRocco (West Islip, N.Y.) as well as single helpers each from senior All-America Kate Sarkissian (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman Michelle Salmon (East Islip, N.Y.).

Graduate student Mary Behrens (Pearl River, N.Y.) accounted for all three tallies on the day with a hat trick for Southern New Hampshire, which received single assists from freshmen Libby Parent (Hinesburg, Vt.) and Jennifer Parro (Ipswich, Mass.). Senior All-America Lauren Stone (Guilderland, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill with a 12-save effort, while senior Lisa McEachern (Scituate, Mass.) made 10 stops in net for Southern New Hampshire as the Skyhawks outshot the Penmen by a 41-18 margin for the match in their first-ever post-season meeting.

Bryant (11-5) raced out to a 4-0 advantage just nine minutes into the second semi-final on two goals each by senior Marisa Lawrence (Falmouth, Mass.) and freshman Delia Glover (Marstons Mills, Mass.), but Merrimack (12-3) closed back to within 7-5 at the break and took an 8-7 lead with the first three goals after intermission. Glover's free position tally evened matters for the Bulldogs at 8-8 with over 20 minutes to play, but the Warriors netted the next six goals, including three off the stick of sophomore Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn.) and a pair by senior Alison Colarusso (North Andover, Mass.), to take a 14-8 lead with eight-plus minutes remaining, as Bryant got no closer than the final score.

Kownacki and sophomore Amanda Simeone (Nashua, N.H.) each netted four goals in the win for Merrimack, which also received a hat trick and three assists off the stick of Colarusso. Freshman Kathleen Esposito (Simsbury, Conn.) added a hat trick and an assist as well for the Warriors, who also received single helpers from senior Erin Black (Walpole, Mass.), junior Jennifer Strachan (Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Lauren Leddy (Sea Girt, N.J.).

Glover netted five tallies in the setback for Bryant, which also received a hat trick from Lawrence and single goals from senior Ashley Fabrizio (Collegeville, Pa.) and sophomore Caitlin Hansen (Spring Lake, N.J.). Juniors Shaun Leddy (Sea Girt, N.J.) and Lauren Carlisle (San Diego, Calif.), along with sophomore Lindsey Cann (Danvers, Mass.), notched assists for the Bulldogs.

Freshman Gina Sansone (Norwood, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Merrimack with a 17-save effort, including 11 stops after intermission, while senior Samantha Libby (Penacook, N.H.) made 13 stops in net for Bryant as the Bulldogs outshot the Warriors by a 36-30 margin.

Stonehill and Merrimack will meet in the conference championship match for the third time overall, as the Skyhawks posted a 16-3 win over the Warriors in last year's title contest. The two schools also met for the 2001 Northeast-10 crown, also won by Stonehill.
