EASTON, Mass.-- Senior All-America Colby Confer (Madison, Conn.) scored six goals and junior Jenny McGrath (Milton, Mass.) added four goals and an assist for five points as top-ranked Stonehill matched the school record for wins in one season by closing out regular season play with an 18-5 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over seventh-ranked Philadelphia University Sunday afternoon at Chieftain Stadium.

The host Chieftains (17-0) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead just 9:51 into the contest, but the visiting Rams (10-5) evened matters with three tallies in a 2:37 span to forge a 3-3 tie with 10:09 remaining in the half. Stonehill then scored the game’s next 11 goals to take control of the match, including the final five of the first half for an 8-3 lead at the break and the first six of the second half in taking a 14-3 edge with 12:43 remaining in the contest, as the Chieftains tied the school mark for victories that was first set during the 2003 NCAA Division II national championship campaign two years ago.

Junior All-America Erin Acone (Bow, N.H.) added a pair of goals and two assists for four points on the day for Stonehill, which extended its school-record winning streak to 23 straight matches dating back to last April, while seniors Courtney Duggan (Billerica, Mass.) and Brenna Newfell (North Billerica, Mass.) each chipped in with a pair of markers for the Chieftains, who also received single goals off the sticks of senior Colette Carpenter (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Tracey Hoffman (Nashua, N.H.).

Junior Stacy Haldeman (Hockessin, Del.) netted two goals in the setback for Philadelphia University, which also received single tallies off the sticks of senior Janet Tarpey (Langhorne, Pa.), junior Jenna Tursi (Medford Lakes, N.J.) and freshman Brooke Woodland (West Grove, Pa.).

Junior Lauren Stone (Guilderland, N.Y.) made five saves to pick up her 15th win of the season in goal for Stonehill, while freshman Elizabeth Hulfish (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomore Sharlene Saldanha (Edison, N.J.) combined for eight stops in net for Philadelphia University as the Chieftains outshot the Rams by a 41-19 margin for the match.

Stonehill will host the 2005 Northeast-10 Conference Championships next weekend at Chieftain Stadium, as the Chieftains are the top seed in the tournament and will face either Saint Michael’s or Assumption in semi-final round play next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Today’s contest was also the final regular season match for Philadelphia University.
