NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.-- Junior All-America Erin Acone (Bow, N.H.) netted six goals and added an assist for seven points as top-ranked Stonehill won the showdown for first place in the Northeast-10 Conference women’s lacrosse standings with a 21-2 league triumph over Merrimack Wednesday afternoon at Warrior Field.

The visiting Chieftains (14-0, 8-0 Northeast-10) scored the first 11 goals of the contest in jumping out to an 11-1 lead at the break, and Stonehill notched 10 unanswered tallies in the final 30 minutes of play to extend its school-record winning streak to 20 straight dating back to April 2004 and claim its 46th consecutive Northeast-10 regular season victory, improving to 59-1 all-time in conference action.

Senior All-America Colby Confer (Madison, Conn.) added five goals on the afternoon for the Chieftains, who also received two goals and an assist each from senior Courtney Duggan (Billerica, Mass.), junior Jenny McGrath (Milton, Mass.) and freshman Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y.). Sophomore Tracey Hoffman (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in with a goal and three assists for Stonehill, which also received goals off the sticks of seniors Brenna Newfell (North Billerica, Mass.) and Colette Carpenter (Massapequa, N.Y.) as well as freshman Christa LaRocco (West Islip, N.Y.).

Freshmen Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn.) and Amanda Poor (Ipswich, Mass.) netted the lone goals of the afternoon for the host Warriors (8-3, 6-1 Northeast-10), who saw their seven-match winning streak come to an end. Acone, who has netted 15 points in her last two matches alone for Stonehill, held Merrimack sophomore Alison Colarusso (North Andover, Mass.), the Northeast-10’s leading goal scorer with 49 tallies entering the contest, without a point on the day. Senior Kate Condon (Columbia, Md.) chipped in with the lone Warrior assist in the setback for the hosts.

Junior Lauren Stone (Guilderland, N.Y.) picked up her 12th win of the season in goal for Stonehill with a six-save effort, while freshman Lawana DaCosta (Framingham, Mass.) made five stops in net for Merrimack as the Chieftains outshot the Warriors by a 36-10 margin for the contest.

Stonehill hosts Saint Michael’s in a Northeast-10 outing on Saturday afternoon at Chieftain Stadium beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Merrimack travels to Smithfield, R.I. on Thursday afternoon to take on Bryant in a Northeast-10 match at 3:30 p.m.
