EASTON, Mass.-- Senior All-America Colby Confer (Madison, Conn.) and freshman Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y.) each scored four goals, while senior Colette Carpenter (Massapequa, N.Y.) added a pair of goals and three assists for five points as top-seeded and top-ranked Stonehill claimed its sixth straight Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship with a 16-3 victory over second-seeded Merrimack in the 2005 title match Sunday afternoon at Chieftain Stadium.

The host Chieftains (19-0) jumped out to a 3-1 lead just 10 minutes into the match on the strength of a pair of goals by Confer and a single tally by Darrell, but the visiting Warriors (12-4) sliced their deficit to one at 3-2 on junior Alison Colarusso’s (North Andover, Mass.) marker with 19:51 remaining in the half. Stonehill scored the final nine goals of the half, including two each by Darrell and Confer, to take a 12-2 advantage at the break, and second half tallies by Tournament Most Valuable Player Brenna Newfell (North Billerica, Mass.), senior Courtney Duggan (Billerica, Mass.), junior Jenny McGrath (Milton, Mass.) and Carpenter closed out the Chieftain scoring.

Sophomore Tracey Hoffman (Nashua, N.H.) added a goal and an assist in the triumph for Stonehill, which also received a goal from junior All-America Erin Acone (Bow, N.H.) as well as single assists off the sticks of McGrath and Duggan. Sophomore Jennifer Strachan (Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Amanda Simeone (Nashua, N.H.) joined Colarusso with goals on the day for Merrimack, which also received an assist from freshman Allison Kownacki (Orange, Conn.).

Junior Lauren Stone (Guilderland, N.Y.) picked up her 17th win of the season in goal for Stonehill with a three-save effort, while freshman Lawana DaCosta (Framingham, Mass.) made 17 stops in net for Merrimack as the Chieftains outshot the Warriors by a 40-8 margin. The victory extended Stonehill’s school record winning streak to 25 straight matches dating back to April 2004.

Stonehill will await word of selection in the 2005 NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Championships, as tournament berths will be announced later this evening. Merrimack, which advanced to the Northeast-10 championship match for the first time since 2001, closed out its season and set a school record for victories under second year Head Coach and former Stonehill standout Katie Lambert.
