EASTON, Mass. (October 11, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's golf program, in just its third season, is ready to contend at the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Golf Championship, hosted by Le Moyne College, at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York, Sunday and Monday.
Stonehill, which finished fifth at the 2018 NE10 Championship, where it posted a team score for the first time in the program's young history, has been picked to place third this weekend by the Conference's seven head coaches. The Skyhawks collected 21 points and is tied with Assumption College in the pre-championship poll, while Franklin Pierce University is picked to win its second NE10 title in three years, having received six first place votes and 36 points. Southern New Hampshire University is picked second with 28 points and the remaining first place vote. Host Le Moyne College (19 points) has been chosen to round out the top five, followed by The College of Saint Rose (16) in sixth and Adelphi University (6) in seventh.
Stonehill is under the direction of third-year head coach Nick Crovetti, who led former NE10 member Merrimack College to three Conference championships before starting the Skyhawks program in 2016. It marks the second year Stonehill is posting team scores after having three golfers competing individually in its inaugural season in 2017-18. The Skyhawks have opened the year with back-to-back program-best finishes over their first two tournaments leading into the NE10 Championship. Stonehill finished third at the season-opening Saint Rose Fall Invitational with a 668 (339-329) team score, before taking second place at the Penmen Fall Invitational, hosted by Southern N.H., with a program-record two-day score of 632 (322-310), that included the lowest single-day score in program history in the second round.
Stonehill fields another young squad this season with three sophomores and three freshman, along with senior captain Jennifer Kornacki and junior Katelyn Jylkka as only two upperclassmen. Sophomore Sloane Van Zanen, the program's first All-NE10 performer with her second team honors as a freshman, and classmates Alexis Annarummo and Emma Beaulieu will be heading to their second NE10 Championship after leading the way for the Skyhawks as freshmen. Stonehill also has three freshman who have made an immediate impact for the team this fall in Julia Dapron, Abby Jaye and Emily Kase.

Annarummo, who posted a career and program-best third place individual finish at the Penmen Fall Invitational, leads Stonehill with an 80.50 scoring average through the first two events this fall, having posted a pair of top ten finishes. She led the Skyhawks with an eighth place individual finish at last year's NE10 Championship. Van Zanen, who finished 15th at last year's NE10 Championship, has posted an 81.75 stroke average over the first two events, including a top five finish at the Penmen Fall Invite. Jaye has also logged a top five finish this fall and posted an 81.00 scoring average over her first two collegiate events, while Kase has an 81.75 average and a top five. Stonehill's top four have all logged scores in the 70s already this fall.
Dapron rounds out Stonehill's freshman trio with an 83.75 scoring average through her first four collegiate rounds. Beaulieu, who carded the Skyhawks lowest round of the NE10 Championship last fall with a second-round 81 to finish 15th overall, has posted an 88.00 scoring average after her first two round of the year, missing the season-opening Saint Rose Fall Invite. Jylkka adds an 88.50 scoring average through four rounds this fall, while Kornacki rounds out the Skyhawks with a 100.25 average.
The NE10 Championship will get underway with first round play on Sunday starting at noon. Second round play commences with a shotgun start on Monday at 8 a.m. Live results are available golfstat.com.
Following this weekend's NE10 Championship, Stonehill is schedule to round out its fall schedule on October 21 and 22 at the Chippewa Invitational, hosted by Central Michigan University, in Birmingham, Michigan.
