Women's Golf Seventh After Day One of Assumption Spring Invite

Van Zanen sits 17th out of 38 golfers after first round 90

SUTTON, Mass. (April 13, 2019) -  The Stonehill College women's golf team sits in seventh place after the first day of the Assumption Spring Invitational, hosted by Assumption College, on the 5,804-yard, par-72 layout at Blackstone National Golf Club today.

Freshman Sloane Van Zanen posted Stonehill's lowest round of the day, carding a 90 to sit tied for 17th in the field of 38 golfers. Classmates Alexis Annarummo and Emma Beaulieu posted scores of 91 and 93, respectfully for the Skyhawks, while sophomore Katelyn Jylkka finished with 112. Annarummo is tied for 20th overall, while Beaulieu is 26th.

Annarummo recorded the lone birdie in the first round for Stonehill with a two on the par-3 third hole. Beaulieu ranks ninth in the tournament with her seven pars in the opening round, while Van Zanen is tied for 16th with five pars. Blackstone National played tough on Saturday, with the course average at 90.73.

Stonehill finished with a team score of 386 on Saturday for seventh in the team standings. Franklin Pierce University leads the way with a first round score of 321, followed by College of Saint Rose (339) and Le Moyne College (343). Franklin Pierce's Zoey Yamamoto leads three Ravens in the top four and shares the individual lead with Catherine French of host Assumption College after the two recorded five-over-par rounds of 77. They lead the field by three strokes heading into Sunday's second round.

Stonehill closes out its 2018-19 season with second round action at the Assumption Invitational tomorrow.
