Women's Golf Moves Up to Fifth at Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational

 

Annarummo and Van Zanen lead Skyhawks with top ten finishes


Annarummo finished the weekend with four birdies, posting her first collegiate top ten.

KEENE, N.H. (September 24, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's golf program posted a season-low team score of 331 in today's second round to move into a fifth place finish at the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational, hosted by Franklin Pierce University, on the 5,924-yard, par-72 layout at Keene Country Club today.

Stonehill pared off 12 strokes from its opening round 343 on Sunday, which placed the Skyhawks sixth in the team standings, with its program-low score of 331 today to finish fifth overall in the field of nine teams with a two-day score of 674 – 14 strokes better than its first-ever team score at the Saint Rose Fall Invitational two weeks earlier. Merrimack College won the team title with a two-day score of 628 (312-316), led by individual medalist Krystal Knight, who followed up a three-under-par round of 69 on Sunday, with a one-over 73 today to finish with a two-day score of two-under-par 142. Host Franklin Pierce finished second (314-326=640), followed by Southern New Hampshire University in third (327-336=663), and then Le Moyne College in fourth (330-338=668). Stonehill's team score today was third best of the day behind Merrimack and Franklin Pierce, who have combined to win the four NE10 Championships to date, just five shots behind defending champions Franklin Pierce. The 331 is two strokes better than its 333 second round at the Saint Rose Fall Invitational two weeks ago.

Freshmen Alexis Annarummo and Sloane Van Zanen paced Stonehill this weekend with program-best two-day scores of 162, finishing in a tie for tenth place on the individual leaderboard. Annarummo carded back-to-back 81's for her two-day score of 162 and her first collegiate top ten, with today's score moving her up five positions. She recorded two more birdies today after posting the same on Sunday, carding a three on the par-four fourth hole as well as a four on the par-five 13th. Annarummo's four birdies this weekend are the most for a Skyhawks golfer at a tournament in its brief history and finished tied for third in the field this weekend. She also recorded par on 18 holes at the Invitational, with nine in each round, holding a 3.38 stroke average on the four par threes, a 4.55 score average on the par fours and a 5.50 average on the four par fives.


Van Zanen also notched her first collegiate top ten, carding a program-best 20 pars along the way.

Van Zanen, who posted just the second sub-80 round in program history on Sunday, followed up her season-best 79 with an 83 today, for her two-day score of 162 and first collegiate top ten. She finished the weekend with a program-best 20 pars over the two rounds, adding nine more today after carding 11 on Sunday. Van Zanen posted a 4.45 stroke average on the par fours this weekend, 3.63 on the par threes and 5.50 on the par fives.

Freshman Emma Beaulieu improved four strokes from her Sunday round with a second round 82 today to move up six spots for a 16th place finish with her two-day score of 168 (86-82). She carded a birdie on the par three eighth hole, finishing the tournament with a 3.63 stroke average on the par threes and a 4.60 average on the par fours. Sophomore Katelyn Jylkka improved by 12 strokes on Monday, posting a second round score of 85 for a two-day total of 182 (97-85) for a 36th place finish. Junior captain Jennifer Kornacki also improved from her Sunday round, finishing with a 99 today for a two-day 206 total (107-99).

Stonehill returns to action Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7, when it competes at the Penmen Columbus Day Invitational at Derryfield Country Club in Derryfield, New Hampshire.
