KEENE, N.H. (September 23, 2018) – Freshman Sloane Van Zanen posted the second sub-80 round of the season and in program history to lead the way as Stonehill College sits sixth after the opening round of the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational, hosted by Franklin Pierce University, on the 5,924-yard, par-72 layout at Keene Country Club today.

Stonehill posted a 343 team score in the opening round, good for sixth place out of nine teams competing at the two-day event. Merrimack College leads the team standings with a score of 312, followed closely by host Franklin Pierce's 314. The Skyhawks are within striking distance of third place Southern New Hampshire University (327), fourth place Le Moyne College (330) and fifth place Assumption College (336) heading into Monday's second round. Van Zanen carded the second-lowest round in Stonehill's young history with her seven-over-par 79, marking her season-low round and just the second time a Skyhawk has broken 80 in competition in the program's brief two year history. Sophomore Katelyn Jylkka posted a career-best 78 two weekends ago at the Saint Rose Invitational. Van Zanen was steady through her round today, recording a program-best 11 pars and finishing one-over-par on the four par fives. Merrimack's Krystal Knight leads the individual standings by four strokes after a three-under-par round of 69 today.

Freshman Alexis Annarummo posted a season-low round of 81, keyed by a program-best two birdies, to go with nine pars, for 15th place on the leaderboard. She played the four par threes at even par on the day as well. Classmate Emma Beaulieu sits in 22nd place in the field of 49 individuals after a round of 86. Jylkka added a 97 for the Skyhawks, while junior Jennifer Kornacki carded a 107.
