Beaulieu posts top ten finish, Jylkka cards program-low 78

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (September 10, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's golf program moved up three positions in the second round for a fourth place finish at the Saint Rose Fall Invitational, hosted by The College of Saint Rose, on the 5,856-yard, par-72 layout at Western Turnpike Golf Club today.

Stonehill, competing as a team entry for the first time in the program's young two-year history, improved 22 strokes from its first round score on Saturday (355) with a score of 333 on Monday. The Skyhawks moved up three spots in the team standings to a fourth place finish at the event. Merrimack College took the team title, led by individual medalist Krystal Knight, who carded a five-under-par round of 67 today to finish with a two-day score of two-under-par 142 (75-67). Franklin Pierce University took second (320-326=646), followed by Le Moyne College (346-327=673) and then Stonehill. The Skyhawks moved past fifth place Post University (345-344=689), sixth place Assumption College (343-350=693) and seventh place LIU Post (347-355=702) with their second round score today.

"It was certainly an exciting and memorable tournament to post our first official team score in school history," said second-year head coach Nick Crovetti. "A fourth place finish was very respectable and I'm proud of our day two comeback. This fall should be exciting and full of many milestones."

Freshman Emma Beaulieu led the way for Stonehill with a top ten finish in her first collegiate event. She followed up a first round score of 85 on Sunday with a round of 80 today to finish in a tie for tenth in the field of 51 individuals. It marks the highest individual finish for a Stonehill gofler at an event over its first two seasons.

A large reason for the Skyhawks' 22-stroke improvement from Sunday came from the bag of sophomore Katelyn Jylkka with a program-low round of 78 – 19 strokes lower than her Sunday 97 to move up 17 spots on the leaderboard to a three-way tie for 22nd overall with a two-day score of 175. She carded a chip-in birdie to highlight her program-best round, set one day after freshman Sloane Van Zanen ad bested her previous program low set last season on Sunday. Jylkka's 78 today was one of just five rounds lower than 80 on Monday.

Van Zanen gave Stonehill two golfers in the top 20 this weekend as she followed up her Sunday 83 with an 89 to finish 19th overall with a two-day score of 172. Freshman Alexis Annarummo placed 27th overall with a two-day score of 176 (90-86), while junior captain Jennifer Kornacki finished 105-108=213.

Stonehill will have a weekend off, before competing at the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational, hosted by Franklin Pierce University, September 23-24, at Keene Country Club in Keene, New Hampshire.
