Women's Golf Logs First Team Score at Saint Rose Fall Invitational

Van Zanen posts program-low round in collegiate debut

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (September 9, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's golf program is entered as a team for the first time in the program's young history and stands seventh out of nine teams following the first round at the Saint Rose Fall Invitational, hosted by The College of Saint Rose, on the 5,856-yard, par-72 layout at Western Turnpike Golf Club today.

Freshman Sloane Van Zanen carded a program-low round of 83 to sit in a tie for 14th place out of 51 individuals after the opening day. She bettered the previous program low round of 87 by sophomore teammate Katelyn Jylkka at the Penmen Columbus Day Invitational in New Hampshire last October. Freshman Emma Beaulieu also bested the previous program low in her collegiate debut with her round of 85 and is tied for 17th heading into tomorrow's second round.

Stonehill posted a team score of 355 today and is seventh out of the nine teams competing at the event. The Skyhawks, after having individual entries in their inaugural season in 2017-18, is fielding a full team of five for the first time this fall. Franklin Pierce University leads the team standings with a first round score of 320, followed by Merrimack College (326) and Assumption College (343). Merrimack's Krystal Knight holds a one-stroke lead on the individual leaderboard after an opening three-over-par round of 75 today.

Freshman Alexis Annarummo, a transfer from Siena College, posted a score of 90 today for Stonehill and is 28th overall. Jylkka rounded out the Skyhawks four scorers on Sunday with a 97, while junior captain Jennifer Kornacki finished with 105.

Stonehill's 355 team score leads host Saint Rose (359) by four strokes and Adelphi University (377) by 22, while trailing LIU Post (347) by eight and Le Moyne College (346) by nine.

Stonehill will wrap up play at the Saint Rose Fall Invitational with second round play on Monday morning.
