Kornacki Opens Gannon Spring Invite with Season-Low

Simsbury, Connecticut, sophomore posts season-best 99 in opening round

ERIE, Pa. (April 22, 2018) – Stonehill College sophomore Jennifer Kornacki (Simsbury, Connecticut/Simsbury) opened the Gannon Spring Invitational with a season-low round on the 5,802-yard, par-72 layout at Lake Shore Country Club this afternoon.

Kornacki carded a season-low round of 99 this afternoon and sits in a tie for 35th place on the individual leaderboard after the first round. Her scorecard included two birdies, including a hole-out from 110-yards out on the 347-yard, par 4, fourth hole. She also birdied the 117-yard, par-3, 18th hole and chipped in for par on the tenth. Kornacki completed the front nine in 53 strokes, and then posted a 46 on the back.

Mercyhurst University leads the team standings by 19 strokes after the first round with a score of 330. Host Gannon University is second with a 349 and fellow Northeast-10 Conference member Le Moyne College is third at 360. Mercyhurst's Abigail Vietmeier leads the individual standings after posting an opening round four-over-par 76, while Sara Suazo from California University of Pennsylvania is just a stroke behind at 77.

Stonehill's inaugural women's golf season comes to a close tomorrow, when Kornacki competes in the second round of the Gannon Spring Invitational at 10 a.m.
