Portland, Connecticut, freshman tied for 13th after first round

DERRYFIELD, N.H. (October 7, 2017) – Freshman Katelyn Jylkka (Portland, Connecticut/East Catholic) carded the team's lowest round of its inaugural season to highlight the Stonehill College women's golf program's opening round of the Penmen Columbus Day Invitational, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University, on the par-71 layout at Deerfield Country Club today.

Jylkka posted a round of 87 to mark her lowest round of the season as well as the lowest round of the program's inaugural season. Her round consisted of seven pars, which is tied for ninth most after the first round as she sits in a tie for 13th overall in the individual standings. Jylkka's 3.33 stroke average on the course's par three's is tied for second-lowest on the holes after the opening round as she finished the day +1 on those three holes.

Sophomore Jennifer Kornacki (Simsbury, Connecticut/Simsbury) also recorded a season-low round with her score of 104, while freshman Francesca Feola (Bellingham, Massachusetts/Bellingham) posted a round of 126.

Post University leads the team standings after the first round with a score of 325, six strokes in front of NCAA Division I College of the Holy Cross (331). The Eagles are led by the top two individuals in the standings as Amber Thompson-Newton leads the way after a four-over par round of 75 and teammate Amanda Barone shot a 77, along with Jackie Gonzalez from Holy Cross.

The Penmen Columbus Day Invitational will conclude with second round play on Sunday.
