Arlington, Massachusetts, senior guard recognized for having the highest cumulative grade point average in NE10 Championship
EASTON, Mass. (April 2, 2020) – Stonehill College senior guard Grace Carter was recognized for her efforts in the classroom by receiving the Northeast-10 Conference's Elite 24 Award for having the highest cumulative grade point average at the NE10 Women's Basketball Championship last month.
Carter is the first Stonehill women's basketball student-athlete to receive the award and the second from the College overall, both of which have come during this academic year, after volleyball graduate Rachel Dunlavy, '19 was honored at the 2019 NE10 Volleyball Championships in November. The Elite 24 Award honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) participating at the finals side at each NE10 Championship. These student-athletes represent the true essence of NE10 student-athletes earning it every day we are proud to recognize their efforts. The inaugural year for the Elite 24 Award was the 2018-19 season.
Carter, a political science major with a 3.67 cumulative grade point average, has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll all seven semesters, receiving Academic Distinction recognition for having a semester GPA between 3.50 and 3.99 the last three semesters. She has received the Division II Athletic Director's Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award the last two years for having a cumulative GPA above 3.50, been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll five semesters and earned the St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medal two-straight years for having the highest cumulative grade point average on the women's basketball team.

The senior captain started all 28 games for Stonehill this season, averaging 8.7 points on 32.3-percent shooting, converting 80.6% (25-for-31) of her free-throws, with 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Carter led the Skyhawks in scoring four times this year, scoring in double-figures eight times, with 20-plus points in three games, netting a career-high 25 points, aided by 7-for-12 shooting from three-point distance, in a season-opening win over fellow NCAA Tournament participant Daemen College on November 8.
Carter started 78 of her 100 career games played and finished her career ranked sixth in program history with 168 three-pointers. She has also totaled 754 points, 237 rebounds and 106 steals over her career.
Stonehill wrapped up its 2019-20 season with a 23-5 record overall, including 16-3 in the NE10, winning the Northeast Division regular season title and NE10 Tournament Championship and earning the program's 26th NCAA Tournament bid. The program's NE10 division title is the program's tenth regular season championship, before winning its sixth tournament championship with an 80-61 win over Saint Anselm College. The Skyhawks are also ranked No. 16 in the most recent D2SIDA Top 25 Media Poll and No. 23 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll.
