Raymond Fires Women's Basketball Past AIC, 65-36

EASTON, Mass. (January 28, 2020) – Sophomore forward Kayla Raymond was the game's lone double-figure scorer with a season-high 29 points to lead Stonehill College, ranked No. 7 in the D2SIDA East Region poll, to a commanding 65-36 triumph over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight.

Grace Carter Senior, Guard: Six points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. 

American International

Nadia Wooten Senior, Guard: Seven points (3-for-6), six rebounds.

Rashana Siders Senior, Guard: Seven points, four rebounds.

How it Happened

    Stonehill led start to finish, holding American International to 21.5-percent shooting (14-for-65), including 3-for-19 (15.8%) from three-point distance.
  • Stonehill scored the final nine points of the first quarter to turn a two-point game (13-11) into an 11-point cushion (22-11) after ten minutes. Raymond scored seven of her ten first quarter points to lead the Skyhawks run.
  • Stonehill limited AIC to 3-for-14 (21.4%) shooting in the second quarter, including 1-for-6 from three, to extend its lead to 16 (36-20) at the half. The Skyhawks again finished the quarter strong, netting the last seven points of the frame to stretch a nine-point lead (29-20) with four minutes left into the 16-point halftime cushion.
  • Stonehill broke the game open further with a 14-6 run to start the third quarter to secure a 24-point gap (50-26) after a three-pointer from junior Jennifer Worden with 3:38 to play in the frame.
  • AIC wouldn't close within 20 point the rest of the way with the final 29-point margin Stonehill's largest lead of the night. The Skyhawks held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for the final 5:34.

 Noteworthy

  • Raymond has posted back-to-back 20-point games, and three of four overall, setting a new season-high for the second-straight contest, marking her third 20-point game of the season overall and 11th of her career.
  • Stonehill is 4-1 this season when Raymond leads the team in scoring (15-7 for her career).
  • Carter's two three-point field goals tonight give her 155 for her career to move into a tie for seventh all-time in program history with Esther King, '96 (155), four behind Kristen McDonnell, '03 (159) for sixth.
  • Stonehill is now 6-1 since the New Year, having won its last two since its lone January defeat against Pace last Wednesday.
  • With Stonehill's win and rival Bentley's 69-55 loss at Le Moyne tonight, the Skyhawks move back within a game of first place in the NE10's Northeast Division heading towards the final month of the regular season, a half-game behind idle Saint Anselm.
