Raymond Adds Eighth NE10 Rookie of the Week Award

EASTON, Mass. (February 18, 2019) – Stonehill College freshman forward Kayla Raymond has collected Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors for an impressive eighth time this season, the league office announced today.

Raymond averaged a double-double of 15 points and ten rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for regionally-ranked Stonehill. She shot 59.1-percent from the field (13-for-22) and contributed three blocked shots, 1.5 steals and an assist per game for the week. Raymond led three Skyhawks in double-figures in Tuesday night's 71-51 win over Saint Michael's College with 16 points (ten first half) on 6-of-12 shooting, nine rebounds and three blocked shots. She followed that up with her second double-double of the season in Saturday's 72-46 win over Franklin Pierce University, finishing with 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 12 in the first half, with a season-high matching 11 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals.

Raymond has started 19 of her 20 games played this season for Stonehill and leads the team with 15.4 points per contest (10th NE10), shooting 48.7-percent from the field (16th), including 36.2% (25-for-69) from three-point distance, and converting 81.3% (26-32) of her free-throws. She is also contributing 5.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.9 blocked shots (6th) and a steal in 23.6 minutes per game.

Stonehill is 9-2 this season when Raymond is its top scorer, scoring in double-figures in 17 of her 20 games played, including each of her last six and ten of 11. She has been the Skyhawks top rebounder 11 times, with the team 9-2 in those games, and has produced 20-plus points five times, including a season-high 23 points in a 64-59 win at Pace University on January 29. Raymond previously earned NE10 Rookie of the Week honors on November 12 and 26, December 3 and 20, January 7 and 21 and February 4.

Stonehill, the only program to have qualified for all 38 NE10 Tournaments after clinching a spot in the upcoming tournament on Saturday, is ranked No. 7 in the most recent D2SIDA East Regional poll. The Skyhawks, currently in sole possession of second place in the NE10's Northeast Division standings, hits the road for a pair of contests this week. Stonehill visits Merrimack College, ranked tenth in the region, on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks close out the week at Assumption College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., before returning home on Tuesday, February 26, to close out the regular season with a Senior Night matchup with Saint Anselm College, ranked sixth in the region, at 5:30 p.m.
