Lux and McConnell combine for 41 points to lead Falcons
WALTHAM, Mass. (February 6, 2019) – Bentley University, ranked No. 15 in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll and 17th in the D2SIDA Top 25 poll, limited Stonehill College, ranked No. 6 in the D2SIDA East Region poll, to 31-percent shooting in posting a 77-59 triumph in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action featured as part of the NCAA Division II Basketball Showcase at the Dana Athletic Center tonight.
Seniors Victoria Lux and Amy McConnell combined for 41 points to lead Bentley to the win. Lux scored 13 of her game-high 21 points in the second half, to go with eight rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots. McConnell added 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 4-for-6 from three-point range, with seven assists. Junior Maddy Springfield pulled down a game-high ten rebounds to go with eight points and two steals, while senior Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) chipped in nine points and four boards.
Freshman Kayla Raymond spearheaded three from Stonehill in double-figures with 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting and three rebounds, while junior Gabrielle Reuter added 12 points. Junior Grace Carter scored all ten of her points in the first half, with four rebounds and three assists, while sophomore Jennifer Worden chipped in nine points, seven boards, three assists and two steals.
Stonehill held an early five-point lead (10-5) in an otherwise back and forth first quarter, keyed by seven points from Raymond. Bentley scored five-straight to grab a four-point lead (22-18) after a jumper from junior Julia Ford with 28-seconds left in the quarter, before Carter made two free-throws to close out the frame with the Falcons holding a two-point lead (22-20).

Bentley stretched its lead to six (28-22) on a Lux layup two and a half minutes into the second quarter. The lead reached seven (31-24) after a three-pointer from sophomore Marissa Fontaine as the quarter reached the midway point and then was eight (37-29) after a McConnell layup with 2:15 remaining, a margin the Falcons carried into the second half.
Two quick baskets from Reuter pulled Stonehill back within four (39-35) a minute into the third quarter. The Skyhawks were still within four after a Raymond layup a minute later, but Bentley scored six-straight to open a ten point cushion (49-39) after a Springfield three-pointer with 6:41 to play in the third. Stonehill was back within six (51-45) with two free-throws by senior Tayler Wornum midway through the quarter, but the Falcons followed with a 9-2 spurt to open a 13-point advantage (60-47) when Lewis made one of two at the line with 1:44 to go in the quarter.
Bentley carried a nine-point lead (60-51) into the fourth and scored the first six points of the frame to open a 15-point lead (66-51) after a three-point play from Lewis with 6:42 to go. The Falcons wouldn't allow Stonehill back within double-digits the rest of the way, with the final margin their largest lead of the night.
Stonehill (15-6, 10-5 NE10) is back on the road on Saturday, when it visits Southern New Hampshire University, ranked ninth in the region, for an NE10 matchup at 1:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Tuesday, February 12, to host Saint Michael's College for its Faculty & Staff Appreciation Game at 5:30 p.m. Bentley (20-2, 14-1 NE10) travels to Assumption College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
