Raymond Picks Up Sixth NE10 Rookie of the Week Award

EASTON, Mass. (January 21, 2019) – Stonehill College freshman forward Kayla Raymond has collected Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the sixth time this season, the league office announced today.

Raymond averaged 13.5 points per game on 50-percent shooting from the field (12-for-24) in a 1-1 week for Stonehill. She also added 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocked shots and an assist per game. Raymond opened the week by scoring all 14 of her points in the first half as the Skyhawks opened a 28-point halftime lead on their way to a 75-54 victory over the College of Saint Rose on Wednesday, finishing 6-for-11 from the field, to go with eight rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and a steal. She followed that up with 13 points and three rebounds against Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday.

Raymond has started 12 of her 13 games played this season for Stonehill and leads the team with 16.2 points per contest (7th NE10), shooting 50.6-percent from the field (11th), including 45.2% (19-for-42) from three-point distance (3rd), and converting 87% (20-23) of her free-throws. She is also contributing five rebounds, 1.6 assists, two blocked shots (5th) and a steal in 23.6 minutes per game. Raymond ranks 35th nationally in Division II for blocks per game, helping a Skyhawks team that is second in Division II with six blocks per game as a team.

Stonehill is 6-1 this season when Raymond is its top scorer, scoring in double-figures in 11 of her 13 games played, including each of the last four, leading the Skyhawks in rebounding six times. She has produced 20-plus points four times, including a season-high 22 points in wins over Holy Family University on November 10 and Caldwell University on December 16. Raymond previously earned NE10 Rookie of the Week honors on November 12 and 26, December 3 and 20 and January 7.

Stonehill, ranked No. 7 in this week's D2SIDA East Region rankings and receiving votes in the most recent Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll, is back in action on Wednesday, when it opens a three game road trip at Le Moyne College, ranked fourth in the region at 5 p.m. The Skyhawks close out the week at the University of New Haven, ranked ninth in the region, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Stonehill returns to Merkert Gym on Saturday, February 2, to host Adelphi University for its Alumnae Game at 1:30 p.m.
