Reuter fills box score with career-bests to lead Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (December 8, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 19 in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll and fourth in the D2SIDA East Region poll, closed out the first third of its Conference schedule on a winning note, claiming a 75-65 victory over Southern New Hampshire University, ranked ninth in the region, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium this afternoon.
Junior Gabrielle Reuter powered a balanced Stonehill effort with a career-high matching 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting, converting both free-throw attempts, with six rebounds, four assists and a career-best eight blocked shots, matching the program's single-game mark set by former teammate Elizabeth Grip, '18 last year. Senior Maty Diabate added 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, a team-high eight rebounds and two assists, while junior Grace Carter totaled 12 points and two assists. Junior Kelsey Shaw rounded out the Skyhawks in double-figures by making all four shots from the field, including a pair of three-pointers, for a season-high matching 11 points and three assists, while freshman Kayla Raymond came off the bench and chipped in nine points, two boards, two assists and two blocks.
Junior Victoria Dean led SNHU with 16 points off the bench on 6-of-10 shooting, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc, while senior Kylie Lorenzen finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Junior Karlee Ziliak was the only other Penmen in double-figures with ten points, while senior Brianna Camara chipped in seven points, nine boards and two steals.
Stonehill made 9-of-13 shots (69.2-percent) in the third quarter, including 3-for-5 (60%) from beyond the arc, to turn a five-point halftime lead (33-28) into a 16-point (57-41) cushion heading into the fourth quarter. The Skyhawks finished shooting 55.8% overall, including 6-for-15 (40%) from long range, while limiting SNHU to 39% overall.

Stonehill scored nine-straight points, the last seven from Reuter, to turn the five-point halftime lead into a 14-point advantage (44-30) with a layup three-minutes into the second half. The Skyhawks extended their lead to 17 (51-34) with a Diabate layup with 4:40 left in the third, before SNHU scored seven-straight, including five by Dean, to draw within ten (51-41) following a Dean three-pointer. Stonehill scored the final six points of the frame, capped by a Shaw three-pointer, to take a 16-point lead (57-41) into the final frame.
Reuter opened the final quarter with a layup to stretch the Stonehill lead to 18 (59-41). The Skyhawks lead wouldn't dip back within double-figures the rest of the way as they stretched the cushion to a game-high 19 (68-49) after a Reuter jumper with 5:56 to play. Stonehill's lead was still 17 (70-53) after a layup from sophomore Jennifer Worden with 3:30 remaining, which proved to be more than enough to seal its eighth win of the year despite SNHU outscoring the hosts 12-5 the rest of the way for the ten-point final margin.
Stonehill (8-2, 5-2 NE10) is off until next Sunday, December 16, when it hosts Caldwell College for a non-conference matchup to close out the first semester schedule, at 1:30 p.m. Southern N.H. (6-4, 2-4 NE10) hosts Franklin Pierce University next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
