#22 Women's Basketball Wins Road Battle at Saint Anselm, 74-65

Raymond leads four Skyhawks in double-figures with 21 points, nine rebounds

MANCHESTER, N.H. (November 20, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked 22nd in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll, placed four in double-figures and held Saint Anselm College, ranked sixth in this week's D2SIDA East Region media poll, to 33.8-percent shooting, in posting a 74-65 victory in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium tonight.

Freshman Kayla Raymond led four Stonehill players in double-figures with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 2-for-5 from three-point range, while converting 7-of-8 free-throws for her second 20-point game of the year. She also added a season-high nine rebounds, dished two assists and blocked a shot in her 30 minutes for the Skyhawks.

Junior Grace Carter added 14 points, aided by 3-of-5 shooting from three-point distance, and three assists, while classmate Kelsey Shaw totaled 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Freshman Emily Bramanti chipped in a season-high 11 points, four rebounds and three assists, while junior Gabrielle Reuter blocked five shots to lead a strong defensive effort for the Skyhawks.

Junior Shannon Ryan turned in a hard-earned double-double to lead Saint Anselm as she finished with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, with three assists as she made 6-of-21 shots from the floor and converted 5-of-11 free-throws. Sophomore Peyton Steinman was the only other Hawk in double-figures with 13 points, three boards and two steals, while classmate Grace Gauchione contributed nine points, six rebounds, four assists and six steals.

Saint Anselm held a two-point lead (43-41) after Ryan made one of two at the line midway through the third quarter, but Stonehill outscored the Hawks 12-4 over the remainder of the frame to take a six-point lead (53-47) into the fourth. Sophomore Madison Seymour sparked the run with a three-pointer to push the Skyhawks back in front as the visitors scored seven-straight to grab a five point lead (48-43) after a layup from senior Tayler Wornum with 2:17 to play in the third.

Saint Anselm pulled back within two (49-47) after a layup from senior Michaela Martin with a minute remaining in the third, but Stonehill scored the last four of the quarter to take the six-point lead into the final ten minutes. Bramanti scored six-straight to spark the Skyhawks lead into double-figures (61-49) with 6:39 remaining.

Saint Anselm pulled back within seven (61-64) with a three-point play by junior Sara Messler with 5:40 to play, but Stonehill was able to restore an 11-point cushion (67-56) with two Carter free-throws with 2:53 remaining. The Hawks closed within two possessions (67-61) with two minutes still to play after a Ryan layup and Steinman three-point play, but the Skyhawks closed the game out by converting 6-of-9 free-throws the rest of the way.

Stonehill (4-1, 2-1 NE10) returns to action on Sunday, when it visits LIU Post, receiving votes in the WBCA national poll and ranked fifth in the region, at 1:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Wednesday, November 28, to host Merrimack College in NE10 play at Merkert Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. Saint Anselm (4-1, 2-1 NE10) hosts Mercy College on Sunday at 3 p.m.
