Reuter's career-high 16 points lead Skyhawks to road win

COLCHESTER, Vt. (November 17, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked 19th in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II and D2SIDA Top 25 Media preseason polls, outscored Saint Michael's College by 20 points in the even quarters, including 14-8 in the fourth to claim a 56-44 victory in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action at the Ross Sports Center this afternoon.

Junior Gabrielle Reuter led Stonehill to the win by scoring ten of her game and career-high 16 points in the second half, finishing 7-for-15 from the floor, to go with six rebounds. Classmate Kelsey Shaw added nine points and three boards, while senior Maty Diabate pulled down a game and season-best ten rebounds, while adding six points and a steal. Sophomore Jennifer Worden chipped in with nine boards, five points, five assists and three steals.

Senior Samantha Delaney led a pair from Saint Michael's in double-figures with 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Junior Taylor Miller added ten points on 4-of-5 shooting, converting both free-throw attempts, to go with seven boards. Junior Brianna Purcell contributed eight points, three rebounds and three assists for the Purple Knights.

Saint Michael's trailed by as much as 16 points (39-23) midway through the third quarter, but closed the quarter on an 11-3 run, led by four points apiece from Delaney and Purcell, while sophomore Nicole Anderson drained a three-pointer, to close within six (42-36) heading into the fourth quarter. The Purple Knights pulled even (44-44) with a Delaney layup with four minutes to go as the run extended to 21-5.

Stonehill held, with Shaw connecting with a three-pointer to kick-start a game-clinching 12-0 run to close out the game. Shaw scored the first five points of the run, and finished with seven of her nine points during that stretch alone, while Reuter added a layup and the Skyhawks made five of their final six free-throws in the closing 32-seconds to seal the win.

Stonehill trailed by three (13-10) heading into the second quarter, but layups from Worden and Reuter pushed the Skyhawks in front (18-15) four minutes in. Stonehill closed the half with a 16-2 run to carry an 11-point lead into halftime (28-17) after Reuter's first career three-pointer with 93-seconds left. Reuter had seven points during that run, while freshman Emily Bramanti added five, including a three-pointer.

Saint Michael's scored the first four points of the second half, but Stonehill followed with an 11-2 run to open its game-high 16-point margin (39-23) after a triple by freshman Isabelle Santoro with 4:27 remaining in the third. Diabate sparked the Skyhawks run with the first four points of the stretch.

Stonehill (3-1, 1-1 NE10) is back in action on Tuesday, when it visit Saint Anselm College for an NE10 matchup at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Wednesday, November 28, to host Merrimack College in NE10 play at Merkert Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. Saint Michael's (1-3, 0-2 NE10) hosts Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
