Raymond Earns First NE10 Rookie of the Week Award

EASTON, Mass. (November 12, 2018) – Stonehill College freshman forward Kayla Raymond has been recognized after a strong debut weekend by earning her first Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week Award, the league announced today.

Raymond led Stonehill to a 2-0 opening weekend of the season at the Wilmington (Del.) University Tip-Off Classic, averaging 18.5 points on 62.5-percent shooting from the field (15-for-24), including 2-for-4 from three-point range, while converting 5-of-6 free-throws (83.3%). She also contributed five rebounds, 2.5 blocked shots and an assist per game.

Raymond capped a solid opening weekend to her collegiate career with a season-high 22 points in Saturday's 63-44 win over Holy Family University on 10-of-14 shooting, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and a steal in 25 minutes of play. She contributed 15 points, two rebounds and three blocked shots in Friday's 92-39 win at Wilmington.

Raymond ranks sixth among NE10 scoring leaders after the opening weekend of the season, while ranking fifth for field goal percentage, fourth in blocked shots per game and 11th in free-throw percentage.

Stonehill, ranked No. 19 in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II and D2SIDA Top 25 preseason polls, is back in action on Wednesday night, when it opens defense of its NE10 Northeast Division Championship against rival and No. 8/8 Bentley University at Merkert Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks close out the week at Saint Michael's College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
