Raymond leads Skyhawks to 2-0 weekend with 22 points, eight rebounds

WILMINGTON, Del. (November 10, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 19 in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and D2SIDA preseason polls, cleaned up a two-game weekend swing with a 63-44 victory over Holy Family University in non-conference women's basketball action on day two of the Wilmington Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University at the WU Athletics Complex this afternoon.

Freshman Kayla Raymond capped a solid opening weekend to her collegiate career with a season-high 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and a steal in 25 minutes of play. Sophomore Jennifer Worden added nine points, five assists, three boards and two steals, while senior Maty Diabate chipped in eight points (4-for-4 FGs), four rebounds and two blocked shots.

Sophomore Jada Smith led three Holy Family players in double-figures with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field, connecting on her lone three-point attempt, and converting all three free-throw tries, with four steals. Junior Elizabeth Radley added ten points and five rebounds, while senior Katie O'Hare totaled 11 points, aided by 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range.

Stonehill took a one-point lead into the second quarter (14-13) and scored the first nine points of the frame, sparked by a Worden three-pointer to grab a ten-point lead (23-13) three minutes in. The Skyhawks outscored Holy Family 17-9 in the quarter to carry a nine-point lead (31-22) into halftime.

Holy Family came out of the intermission and immediately pulled within one (34-33) following a Smith three-pointer 2:10 into the third. Stonehill responded with the next 13 points, however, sparked by consecutive three-pointers by sophomore Madison Seymour and Worden, before Diabate delivered a conventional three-point play, to open a 14-point cushion (47-33) with 3:29 to play in the quarter.

Stonehill's lead wouldn't dip below double-figures the rest of the way, extending the lead to 20 points (58-38) after a Diabate layup mid-way through the fourth, before settling on the final 19-point winning margin.

Stonehill (2-0, 0-0 NE10), ranked No. 3 in the D2SIDA East Region preseason poll, opens its home schedule on Wednesday night, when it hosts rival and No. 8/8-ranked Bentley University for the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both at Merkert Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. Holy Family (1-1, 0-0 CACC) visits University of the District of Columbia next Saturday at 1 p.m.
