NE10 Women's Basketball Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (December 18, 2017) – Stonehill College senior guard Kelly Martin (Scituate, Massachusetts/Scituate) has been selected as the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball for the second straight week by the league office today.

Martin's third career Spalding NE10 Player of the Week award comes in back-to-back weeks after leading Stonehill to a pair of non-conference road wins as the Skyhawks extended their win streak to nine games – the second-longest active streak in the East Region. Martin averaged 16 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and a steal per game in the 2-0 week, connecting on 8-of-9 free-throws. She led Stonehill to a 67-63 comeback win at Pace University on Sunday with 26 points on 8-of-17 shooting, converting 7-of-8 free-throws, to go with nine rebounds and six assists. Martin contributed nine rebounds, eight assists, six points and two steals in Monday's 75-63 triumph at Roberts Wesleyan College.

Martin, who missed the entire 2016-17 season to injury, has returned for a fifth year and leads Stonehill with 17.5 points per game (5th NE10) in 33.5 minutes per contest (2nd), shooting 40.4-percent from the field, including 35.3% (24-for-68) from three-point distance, and converting 84.6% (33-for-39) of her free-throws (5th) to date. She leads the NE10 with 6.3 assists per game, while adding a team-high 1.2 steals, and ranking second on the team with 6.7 rebounds per contest. Martin also leads the NE10 and ranks seventh nationally in Division II for assist/turnover ratio (3.2/gm), having recorded two turnover-free games this season (13 career), ranking 11th nationally for assists per game.

Martin has recorded two double-doubles, one with points and rebounds (15 & 11 vs. St. Michael's, 11/18) and one with points and assists (19 & 12 vs. LIU Post, 11/25), this season having scored in double-figures in nine of Stonehill's ten games this season. She has led the Skyhawks in scoring five of the last six games and six times this season overall, netting 20-plus points four times. She became the 30th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points during the Skyhawks 99-69 win over LIU Post on November 25.

Martin, a two-time All-NE10 selection with third team honors as a sophomore in 2015 and second team accolades in 2016, has started 68 of 84 games played over her career at Stonehill. She is tied for 27th in Stonehill history with 1,112 career points and 14th with 347 assists, having also totaled 420 rebounds and 94 steals. Her .828 career free-throw percentage currently ranks fourth in program history, while her 298 career free-throws made rank tenth.

Stonehill (9-1, 6-1 NE10), receiving votes in last week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll and ranked fourth in this week's D2SIDA East Region poll, is off until Thursday, December 28, when it visits 24th-ranked University of the Sciences in Philadelphia at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks don't return home until New Year's Day, when they host Roberts Wesleyan at Merkert Gymnasium at 1 p.m. Tickets for all Stonehill basketball home games can be purchased online at stonehillskyhawks.com.
