NE10 Women's Basketball Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (December 11, 2017) – Stonehill College senior guard Kelly Martin (Scituate, Massachusetts/Scituate) has been selected as the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball by the league office today.

Martin, who is Stonehill's first Spalding NE10 Player of the Week for women's basketball in two seasons, earns the weekly recognition for the second time in her career after being named as a junior in 2015. She led the Skyhawks into first place in the NE10's Northeast Division after a 2-0 week, averaging 25 points per game on 47.2-percent shooting from the field (17-for-36), including 10-for-21 (47.6%) from three-point distance, while converting 6-of-7 (85.7%) free-throws for the week. Martin also contributed four rebounds, three assists and a steal per game in the two road wins.

Martin scored a game-high 22 points in Tuesday's 75-51 win at Assumption College, with a team-high matching five rebounds, four assists and two steals, posting her second turnover-free game of the season. She surpassed 20 points for the second-straight game and third time this season overall (15th career), leading Stonehill to a key 65-53 win at Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday with a season-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 6-for-10 from three-point distance, with three rebounds and two assists.

Martin, who missed the entire 2016-17 season to injury, has returned for a fifth year and leads Stonehill with 17.9 points per game (6th NE10) in 32.9 minutes per contest (7th), shooting 41.5-percent from the field, including 36.4% (20-for-55) from three-point distance (11th), and converting 83.3% (25-for-30) of her free-throws (6th) to date. She also leads the Skyhawks with 6.1 assists (2nd) and 1.3 steals, while ranking second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game. Martin ranks second in the NE10 and fifth nationally in Division II for assist/turnover ratio (3.3/gm), while ranking 13th nationally in assists per game.

Martin has recorded two double-doubles, one with points and rebounds (15 & 11 vs. St. Michael's, 11/18) and one with points and assists (19 & 12 vs. LIU Post, 11/25), having scored in double-figures in all eight games this season so far, leading the team in scoring each of the last four games and five times this season overall. She became the 30th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points during the Skyhawks 99-69 win over LIU Post on November 25.

Martin, a two-time All-NE10 selection with third team honors as a sophomore in 2015 and second team accolades in 2016, has started 66 of 82 games played over her career at Stonehill. She now ranks 27th in Stonehill history with 1,080 career points and 15th with 333 assists, having also totaled 402 rebounds and 92 steals. Her .826 career free-throw percentage currently ranks fourth in program history, while her 290 career free-throws made rank tenth.

Stonehill (7-1, 6-1 NE10), receiving votes in last week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll and ranked fifth in this week's D2SIDA East Region poll, takes its seven-game winning streak into a non-conference matchup with Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York, tonight at 6 p.m. The Skyhawks don't return home until New Year's Day, when they host Roberts Wesleyan at Merkert Gymnasium at 1 p.m. Tickets for all Stonehill basketball home games can be purchased online at stonehillskyhawks.com.
