Martin Earns First Spalding NE-10 Player of the Week Award

EASTON, Mass. (November 17, 2015) – Stonehill College junior guard Kelly Martin (Scituate, Massachusetts/Scituate) has been named the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball by the league office.

Martin, who earns Spalding Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career, earned All-Tournament Team honors in leading Stonehill to a 2-0 weekend at the Assumption College Tip-Off Classic to open the 2015-16 season. She averaged 19.5 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals over the two games, shooting 61.1-percent from the field (11-for-18), including 5-for-10 (50%) from three-point range, while converting 12-of-14 (85.7%) free-throw attempts.

Martin opened the season with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 3-for-6 from three-point range, with four rebounds and a steal in Friday night's 86-61 win over Goldey-Beacom College. She followed that up with her second career double-double with 23 points and ten assists to go with six rebounds and three steals in Saturday's 84-74 win over Dominican (N.Y.) College, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor and 11-for-12 at the free-throw line.

Martin ranks fourth among NE-10 scoring and assist leaders after the first weekend of the season, ranking fifth in the Conference for field goal percentage, seventh for assist/turnover ratio and steals per game and eighth for three-point field goal percentage. She has scored in double-figures in 12 straight games dating back to last season.

Martin, a third team All-Northeast-10 selection last season, has started 31 of 47 career games played, averaging 11.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and a steal per game. She is shooting 45.8-percent from the field over her career, including 40.2% from three-point range, converting 81.2% of her free-throws. Martin has totaled 532 points, 197 rebounds, 171 assists and 49 steals in her career. Martin was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the NCAA Division II East Regional and has earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status two semesters.

Stonehill (2-0, 0-0 NE-10) will be right back at Assumption on Wednesday for the Northeast-10 opener for both at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks home opener is Saturday as they host Saint Anselm College for an NE-10 matchup at Merkert Gymnasium at 1:30 p.m.
