Faieta Named Spalding NE-10 Player of the Week for Third Time

EASTON, Mass. (February 24, 2015) – Stonehill College senior forward Tori Faieta (Lynn, Massachusetts/Saint Mary's) has been named the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball by the league office.

Faieta, who earns the weekly honor for the third time this season, averaged a double-double with 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for Stonehill. She made 63-percent of her shots from the field (17-for-27) to go with 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocked shots per game for the week. Faieta celebrated Senior Night with her 12th double-double of the season (28th career) in Saturday's 85-71 win over rival Bentley University, scoring a game-high 25 points to go with a game-best 16 rebounds as she made 10-of-14 shots from the field, including her lone three-point attempt, and converted 4-of-5 free-throws to go with four blocked shots, three assists and a steal. She opened the week with 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting with a game-high seven rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot in an 81-71 setback at Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday.

Faieta is averaging a double-double with 15.4 points (8th NE-10) and 10.3 rebounds per game (2nd) this season, shooting 50.5-percent from the field (9th), to go with 1.8 assists and a Conference-best 2.1 blocked shots per game. She has posted 12 double-doubles, led Stonehill in scoring 11 games and rebounding 20 times this winter, including 14 of the Skyhawks last 16 games. Faieta has netted 20-plus points five games this season, including her career-high 27 points against Caldwell University on November 15 in which she netted her 1,000th career point, and has 12 double-figure rebounding games including a career-high matching 17 at Southern New Hampshire University (12/6) and University of New Haven (1/24). She ranks 29th nationally in Division II for double-doubles, 30th for blocked shots per game and 36th for rebounds per game.

Faieta, a two-time All-Northeast-10 selection over her career who earned first team honors as a junior, ranks 13th in program history with 1,324 career points, while her 203 career blocked shots ranks second all-time and her 824 rebounds fourth in program history. Her 98 career games started ranks third all-time and her .499 field goal percentage fourth. Faieta earned All-NE-10 second team honors as a sophomore and was named to the NE-10 All-Rookie team as a freshman, earning NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status five semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll one semester.

Stonehill (21-3, 17-3 NE-10), ranked 12th in both this week's USA TODAY Sports/Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll and the D2SIDA Top 25 media poll, closes out the regular season tonight at Saint Anselm College at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks have clinched the NE-10's Northeast Division Championship and will have home court throughout the upcoming NE-10 Tournament. Stonehill, ranked No. 1 in the first NCAA Division II East Regional rankings released by the regional advisory committee last week and No. 2 in this week's D2SIDA East Regional poll, will host an NE-10 quarterfinal round matchup on Sunday, March 1, at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks will face the winner of Friday night's first round matchup between the Southwest Division No. 4 seed (American International College or Le Moyne College) and Northeast No. 5-seed (Saint Anselm College or Saint Michael's College).
