Northeast-10 Women's Basketball Weekly Release

EASTON, Mass. (February 9, 2015) – Stonehill College freshman forward Samantha Hyslip (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) has been named the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for women's basketball by the league office today.

Hyslip, who earns Rookie of the Week honors for the third time, helped lead Stonehill to a 2-0 week as she averaged 12 points on 71.4-percent shooting from the field (10-for-14), while converting 4-of-5 free-throw attempts. She also chipped in with 3.5 rebounds and an assist in 19 minutes per game off the bench for the Skyhawks. Hyslip rounded out Stonehill's double-figure scorers with 11 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field, and grabbing three rebounds in 20 minutes of Wednesday's 63-60 victory over Merrimack College. She followed that up with 13 points in 18 minutes off the bench in Saturday's 63-56 win at Saint Michael's College on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 at the line with four rebounds and an assist.

Hyslip has played all 20 games in her first collegiate season for Stonehill and is averaging 7.3 points and five rebounds per game, while shooting 50.9-percent from the field and converting 76.6-percent (36-for-47) of her free-throws. She owns the highest field goal percentage on the team, while ranking second in rebounding and is one of six Skyhawks shooting 75-percent or better from the free-throw line. Hyslip is the Skyhawks top scorer off the bench this season and averages 18.4 minutes per game. She has been the team's top scorer once, when she scored a season-high 17 points in a win over then No. 3-ranked Adelphi University on January 7, and its top rebounder three times. Hyslip also posted her first career double-double (17 pts, season-best ten rebounds) in the win over Adelphi.

Stonehill (18-2, 14-2 NE-10), which has won four straight and 13 of its last 14, has already clinched a spot in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Tournament later this month. The Skyhawks hold a four game lead atop the Northeast Division standings with five games to play, having earned a first round bye in the NE-10 Tournament. The Skyhawks are back in action with a pair of home games this week, starting Wednesday night when they look to avenge one of their two losses this season when they host Assumption College for an NE-10 matchup at 5:30 p.m. Stonehill hosts Southern New Hampshire University for its Play4Kay game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
