Hyslip Earns Second Spalding NE-10 Rookie of the Week Award

Westford, Massachusetts, freshman leads Skyhawks to 2-0 week

EASTON, Mass. (January 13, 2015) – Stonehill College freshman Samantha Hyslip (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) has been named the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for women's basketball by the league office.

Hyslip, who earns Rookie of the Week honors for the second time, led Stonehill to a 2-0 week as she averaged 13 points, nine rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot, shooting 57.1-percent from the field (8-for-14) and 10-of-14 (71.4%) at the free-throw line for the week. She posted her first collegiate double-double in Wednesday's 86-72 win over No. 3-ranked Adelphi University, leading a Skyhawks bench which provided an important spark with a 28-12 advantage over Adelphi in bench points, with a season-best 17 points and season-high matching ten rebounds to go with two blocks, shooting 6-for-10 from the floor. Hyslip added nine points and a game-high eight rebounds in Saturday's 63-46 win at Pace, shooting 2-for-4 from the field and converting all five free-throw attempts.

Hyslip has played all 12 games in her first collegiate season for Stonehill and is averaging 7.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.6-percent from the field and converting 75.7-percent (28-for-37) of her free-throws. She owns the highest field goal percentage on the team, while ranking second in free-throw percentage and rebounding. Hyslip is the Skyhawks top scorer off the bench this season and averages 18.9 minutes per game.

Stonehill (11-1, 8-1 NE-10), which moved back to No. 1 in this week's D2SIDA East Regional poll, was ranked 12th in last week's USA TODAY Sports/Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll and 13th in the D2SIDA Top 25 media poll and are expected to move further up when the latest polls are released later this afternoon. The Skyhawks are back in action tonight when they visit American International College for a Northeast-10 matchup at 5:30 p.m., before closing out the week with a non-conference contest at Bloomfield College in New Jersey on Saturday at 1 p.m. Stonehill's next home game is next Wednesday, January 21, when it hosts Southern Connecticut State University in Merkert Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
