Amy Pelletier cemented her name as one of the best players in the history of the Bishop Fenwick girls basketball program. She did so by shooting her way into the record books after scoring over 1,200 points for the Crusaders, burying 168 three-pointers in her high school career. 

Some things never change, at least for Pelletier, who recently made her mark on another program. Last week the Stonehill senior captain notched her 1,000th point for the Skyhawks — on her opening shot of the game, a three-pointer no less. 

"It's still kind of surreal to me that it even happened," said Pelletier. "You never think 'Oh I hope I get 1000 points.' I am usually only thinking about winning games, It definitely served as as reminder that hard work pays off and how lucky I am to have even had the opportunity to play in college."

Hitting 1,000 in both high school and college is a rare feat, and one Pelletier is thankful for.

"I definitely owe about 1000 thank yous to my coaches, teammates and family for all their support. I'm serious when I say none of this would have been possible without them," she said.

The Beverly native entered last week's game against Saint Anselm College two points shy of becoming the 28th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points. She did it on the Skyhawks' first possession and finished with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and connected on 4-for-7 from three-point range. 

Pelletier has always had a knack for three-point shooting, connecting on 40 percent of her three-point shots in her college career. She's also an excellent free throw shooter, having made 55-of-62 attempts at Stonehill.

This type of consistency isn't something that just fell into Pelletier's lap — she's completely committed to off-season workouts, watching film and practicing to make herself better. 

As a freshman, Pelletier jumped into a starting role on the team almost immediately. She went from being a point guard for the Crusaders to being a shooting guard for the Skyhawks. 

"I have been playing a shooting guard since freshman year (of college), which is much different than the point guard position I played in high school," she explained. "Most of my shots are coming off screens and passes from my teammates, so I had to develop a quick release. But confidence is a huge thing for shooters, and for me that comes from getting in the gym as much as possible to taking extra shots so I'm ready to knock them down when it counts." 

As a sophomore, Pelletier played in all 29 games, but didn't start. She averaged 25 minutes a game and averaged 16.5 ppg. 

Last year she started in all 29 games for Stonehill and averaged 10.3 points per game. Pelletier was ranked second in NE-10 in three-point field goals per game and 26th nationally in Division 2. The Skyhawks have put together a 63-30 record since Pelletier came to the club in 2011. 

Over the past three and half seasons Pelletier has played in nearly 100 contests, but her favorite game was at the end of her sophomore year when the Skyhawks defeated Bentley. 

"They are our biggest rival, had been undefeated all season and ranked Number 1 in the nation," said Pelletier, who recorded 17 points in that win, including going 4-for-4 from the free throw line. "It was a battle of a game and everybody, from starters to bench, left it all on the floor. It was one of the best games we ever played and it was just one of those special wins that you never forget." 

Eight games into the 2014-15 season, Stonehill is 7-1 with its only loss coming against Assumption College. Pelletier's averaged 12.1 ppg. and is a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line this year. 

The Skyhawks don't return to the court until New Year's Eve, which will be Pelletier's first game since hitting 1,000.
