Hyslip Named Spalding NE-10 Rookie of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (December 15, 2014) – Stonehill College freshman Samantha Hyslip (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) has been named the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for women's basketball by the league office today.

Hyslip, who earns Rookie of the Week honors for the first time, helped lead Stonehill to an 84-62 victory over Saint Anselm College in its lone game of the week on Wednesday with a season-high 16 points, including ten in the first half. She made 5-of-7 shots from the field, including her lone three-point attempt, and converted 5-of-6 free-throw attempts to go with seven rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes off the bench.

Hyslip has appeared in all eight games for Stonehill in her freshman season and is averaging 6.6 points and six rebounds in 19.9 minutes per game as a reserve. She is shooting 50-percent from the field (19-for-38) and 73.7-percent (14-for-19) from the free-throw line, ranking second on the team in rebounds and free-throw percentage and third for field goal percentage. In addition to her season-high scoring total against Saint Anselm, Hyslip pulled down a season-best ten rebounds in Stonehill's season-opening win over Dominican in her collegiate debut.

Stonehill (7-1, 5-1 NE-10), ranked second in this week's D2SIDA East Regional poll, was ranked 15th in last week's USA TODAY Sports/Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll and 20th in the D2SIDA Top 25 Media Poll. The Skyhawks are off for finals and the holiday break before returning to action on Wednesday, December 31, when it visits LIU Post, ranked ninth in the D2SIDA East Regional poll, at 1:30 p.m. Stonehill returns home on Saturday, January 3, when it returns to Conference play to host Saint Michael's College at 1:30 p.m.
