Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (November 18, 2014) – Stonehill College senior forward Tori Faieta (Lynn, Mass./Saint Mary's) has been named the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball for the opening week of the season by the league office.

Faieta, who earned the first two NE-10 Player of the Week honors of her career last season, collects the award after averaging a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds per game to earn MVP honors at the Stonehill Tip-Off Classic in a 2-0 week for the Skyhawks. She shot 52.8-percent from the field (19-for-36) and also contributed 1.5 blocked shots, an assist and a steal per game for the weekend, becoming the 27th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau for their career. Faieta opened the season with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting and 16 rebounds, just one shy of her career high, in Friday night's 69-54 win over Dominican (N.Y.) College. She followed that up with a career-best 27 points, including the 1,000th of her career, in Saturday's 69-51 win over Caldwell University on 12-of-20 shooting from the field, converting 3-of-4 free-throws, to go with a game-high 12 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots.

Faieta ranks second among Northeast-10 leaders for scoring and rebounding after the opening weekend of the season, also ranking third for offensive rebounds (5.5/gm) and blocked shots per game (1.5).

Faieta, a two-time All-Northeast-10 Conference selection who earned first team honors as a junior, has started 76 of 86 games played over her career and totaled 1,000 points and 606 rebounds. She is shooting 49.8-percent from the field for her career, blocked 156 shots and contributed 148 assists and 46 steals. Faieta ranks 27th in program history for scoring, 15th in rebounds and third in blocked shots. She earned All-NE-10 second team honors as a sophomore and was named to the NE-10 All-Rookie team as a freshman, earning NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status four semesters.

Stonehill (2-0, 0-0 NE-10), among teams receiving votes in the USA TODAY Sports/Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II preseason poll, is back in action with a pair of road games this week, starting with its NE-10 opener on Wednesday night at Merrimack College at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks visit defending National Champions Bentley University, ranked fifth nationally, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Stonehill returns home next Tuesday, November 25, to host Franklin Pierce University at 5:30 p.m.
