Wellesley, Mass., senior guard recognized by publication for second-straight year
EASTON, Mass. (April 3, 2014) – Stonehill College senior guard Mary Louise Dixon (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) has been named an honorable mention All-American for the second straight year by Women's Division II Bulletin.
Dixon, who was also an honorable mention selection to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Coaches' All-America team for the second straight year, is a three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference selection after earning first team honors for the second straight year this season. She also earned Daktronics All-Region honors for the second straight year with a first team pick this season after being named to the second team in 2013.
Dixon is one of just two Stonehill players to start all 29 games this season and leads the team with 17.3 points (3rd NE-10), 5.4 rebounds, 6.1 assists (2nd) and 1.7 steals (12th) per game in her final collegiate season. She is shooting 43.7-percent from the field, including 38.8% (59-152) from three-point range (9th), and converting 85.6% (131-153) of her free-throws (3rd). Dixon ranks fourth nationally in Division II for assists and has led the Skyhawks in scoring 15 games this season, including nine of the last ten, rebounding seven games and assists 25 games. She also ranks seventh among NE-10 leaders for assist/turnover ratio (1.7/gm).
Dixon averaged 17.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists and two steals in Stonehill's 21 NE-10 regular season games, shooting 43.5% from the field, including 37.2% (42-113) from beyond the arc, and connecting on 85.6% (95-111) of her free-throws. She has notched three double-doubles this season, giving her ten for her career, and she also earned Spalding NE-10 Player of the Week honors for the third time in her career on December 9. Dixon has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for having a semester GPA over 3.0 five times and Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.2 semester GPA) twice.
Dixon became the 27th 1,000-point scorer in program history in Stonehill's 82-64 season-opening victory over Barry University and finished her career ranked ninth all-time with an even 1,500 career points. She is the only player in program history with over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds (604) and 500 assists (574), ranking fourth all-time for assists and 5.1 assists per game, and 16th for rebounds. Dixon's 32.9 career minutes per game is a new career record, while she also ranks second for free-throw percentage (.853) and career starts (100), fourth for free-throws made (425), seventh for three-point field goals made (149), ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.356), ninth for steals (187) and 11th all-time in scoring average (13.3 ppg).
Dixon scored a career-best 32 points in Stonehill's NCAA Tournament first round win over Franklin Pierce University in 2013, breaking the program's single-game record for an NCAA Tournament game, and was named to the East Regional All-Tournament team. Dixon also posted just the third triple-double in program history during her junior season with 19 points, a career-best 16 assists and career-high matching 13 rebounds in a win over UMass Lowell, converting a program record 17-of-17 free-throw attempts. She has been named to a pair of All-Tournament teams over her career and collected NE-10 All-Rookie team status as a freshman.
Stonehill capped its 2013-14 season with a 19-10 record overall, including a 14-7 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference to finish second in the Northeast Division standings. The Skyhawks are listed among teams receiving votes in the final USA TODAY Sports Division II poll and participated in its 33rd NE-10 Tournament (all consecutive), reaching the semifinal round, earning their 22nd NCAA Tournament bid where they advanced to the East Regional semifinals.
