EASTON, Mass. (February 4, 2014) – Stonehill College will host its annual Play4Kay event this Saturday, February 8, during its Northeast-10 Conference basketball doubleheader with Saint Michael's College in Merkert Gymnasium as part of Alumni Day at the College. The women's game tips off at 1:30 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 3:30 p.m.

Stonehill is one of approximately 2,000 schools and organizations committed to participating in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Play 4Kay initiative this month. Play 4Kay is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The official dates for the 2014 event is February 7-17. The official charity is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the WBCA and The V Foundation. Since the initiative's inception in 2007, Play 4Kay has raised over $2.6-million for breast cancer awareness and research.

On Saturday, Stonehill will accept donations to the Kay Yow Cancer fund and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and will be admitted to the games free of charge should they do so. Stonehill's women's basketball team will be wearing pink shoe laces and warm-ups and the first 50 Stonehill students in attendance will receive special issue pink "Skyhawk Nation" T-Shirts. There will also be a Super Fan Dance Off at halftime for a $200 Visa gift card and other special "pink" giveaways. During halftime there will be a "Miracle Minute" for donations will be held. Fans can make donations at www.play4kay.org and searching for Stonehill women's basketball. The fund is named after the late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, who passed away after her courageous 22-year battle with breast cancer.

The Stonehill women's basketball team (13-5, 10-4 NE-10), back among teams receiving votes in this week's USA TODAY Sports Division II poll, currently sits in second place in the NE-10 Northeast Division standings heading into Thursday night's rescheduled matchup at Merrimack College at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks are winners of three-straight and six of seven as they look to position themselves for a second-straight NCAA Tournament bid.
