Faieta Earns Second Spalding NE-10 Player of the Week Award

Lynn, Mass., junior recognized after averaging a double-double in 2-0 week

EASTON, Mass. (February 3, 2014) – Stonehill College junior forward Tori Faieta (Lynn, Mass./Saint Mary's) has been named the Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball for the second time this season by the league office this afternoon.

Faieta, who earned the weekly award for the first time in her career on January 13, is one of two Stonehill student-athletes to collect the recognition this season after senior Mary Louise Dixon (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) was named for the third time in her career on December 9. Faieta averaged a double-double to lead the Skyhawks to a 2-0 week with 19 points, ten rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocked shots, while shooting 60.9-percent (14-for-23) from the field, including 2-for-4 (50%) from three-point range, and converting 8-of-12 free-throws.

Faieta opened the week by leading Stonehill to a 65-61 victory over Le Moyne College on Tuesday with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting, and a game-high nine rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and a steal. She followed that up with her fifth double-double of the season (12th career) in Saturday's 92-81 comeback overtime win at The College of Saint Rose as she scored 15 of her 20 points after halftime to go with 11 rebounds, three assists and three blocks, shooting 6-for-9 overall and 7-for-10 at the line.

Faieta has started all 17 games played for Stonehill this season and is third on the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game (10th NE-10), shooting a team-high 54.6-percent (101-for-185) from the field (6th), to go with a team-high 7.6 rebounds (8th), 1.6 assists and a Conference-leading 1.8 blocked shots per game. Her 5.9 field goals per game lead the Skyhawks and ranks sixth among NE-10 leaders. Faieta's five double-doubles this season lead the team and she has notched 12 double-doubles over her career. She has reached double-figures in scoring in all but four games this season, scoring a career-high 25 points in a 104-92 triumph at then 13th-ranked Adelphi University on January 8, and pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds in an 86-74 win over Merrimack College on November 20.

Faieta, a second team All-Northeast-10 pick as a sophomore, has started 64 of the 73 games she has played over her three year career at Stonehill. She has scored 827 points, shooting 50.2-percent from the field, to go with 485 rebounds, 126 assists and 121 blocked shots. Faieta's career field goal percentage and career blocks total are both good for fourth in program history, entering the week just three blocks behind Susie Tully, '01 (124) for third all-time. She earned NE-10 All-Rookie Team status as a freshman, collecting NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors once on January 30, 2012, and has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll two semesters for having a semester grade point average over 3.00.

Stonehill (13-5, 10-4 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday night when it visits Merrimack College for a Northeast-10 matchup at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home to host Saint Michael's College on Alumni Day at the College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The game will be Stonehill's "Play 4 Kay" Game for breast cancer awareness with all proceeds to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
